There's definitely some mixed review out there on this one but I found it to be very sweet. Virginia is very obviously a proud mom of a rockstar so she is of course a bit biased on the subject of raising rockstars. It was a very endearing listen and I enjoyed many of the stories, I think Mary Morello was my favorite. The audiobook is extra endearing because it is read by the author (with a foreword by Dave Grohl and a conversation between him and his mom at the end).

It's interesting to realise that the public image we have of specific artists often doesn't reflect the person behind the portrayal or the teenager they were. Hearing from their parents can offer a lot of insight.
Well written, compelling reading. A new approach, showing that different genre of music are not as culturally removed as we sometimes think.

Benji bought me this one a couple of weeks ago and it was an interesting and informative read. I definitely have held a tighter grip on my children than the majority of these parents, and this book has made me question whether I should loosen it up and allow for more creativity.
Okay many will not be impressed with the comments I'm about to type: This book was great for its walk into the lives of the mums of many rockers and hip-hoppers in the world. However I think it could have done with less reminiscing about the life of Dave Grohl (yes even though his mum did write the book). Shoot me if you will, but in the immortal (paraphrased) words of Regurgitator, I've always preferred his old stuff to the new stuff).
Some stories were very interesting, some a bit less so, but overall I expected it to be more about the rock stars and less about the moms. I liked the vignettes on Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters, and I also liked all the photographs in the book.
A bunch of fantastic stories in here. Mary Weinrib and Mary Morello's stories are my favorite and I'm so glad they were also recorded for the tv series. Mama Grohl seems so down-to-earth.
A cool perspective of several great musicians. I really loved the show too.
