not the most interesting characters. it seemed strange to me that poirot and hastings liked nick so much in the beginning. because yes, male character in christie's novels always have a strange fascination and liking for young women, even if they are at the same time portrayed as very foolish, conventional beauty seemes to have a worth of its own and to be praised and cherished no matter how bad the person. but at the same time, it felt strange, because nick seemed inconsistent and to lack integrity at the same time? i'm putting this badly, it just felt off. and there we were in the end. and while it was satisfying in some ways, i am not overwhelmed somehow. the thing with maddie was a great touch though, i loved that. it made lots of sense in the end. oh i don't know, i'm rambling.
i would have wished for the thing about the portrait to be more interesting. i was so sure that guy was related to nick somehow and wanted the portrait to be taken away because he looked so much like her grandfather or something. i think i read that not so long ago in another (christie?) cosy, so that is that.
not my best work i'm sorry.

I loved this edition of Peril at End House! My copy is beautifully browned with age and smells lovely of old books. It's a shame I'm going to have to read the next few Christie novels on my e-reader; old books are so much more pleasant to read than digital copies. If I'm lucky, my library will open up curbside pick up service soon and I'll be able to borrow a stack.
Nice mystery with a twist ending. I think I started to see what was happening toward the very end but I was a little late on the realization. I honestly don't believe Christie meant for readers to figure out the mystery. I think we were meant to be as surprised as those to whom Poirot explained the crime and exposed the victim.

I was proud that I could guess who it was this time. The narrator of this remains one of my favourites!
