Two stars, not for the original source (Epictetus), which is well worth reading, but because this “book” is essentially just one person’s summary notes on the Enchiridion. Little in the way of original thought, commentary, or application. Much better instead to go straight to the source, and read the Enchiridion.

I'm not slamming Epictetus or this work. The publisher claims this is the most accessible of the Stoic Works, and that's because it contains about enough text to fill a monthly tear away calendar.

That being said the best retort of all time is an ancient one indeed, "If a friend tells you that someone has criticized or insulted you, say, "They must not know about my other faults, or they would have pointed out those, too."

It states the complex into the obvious, through the pass of time, an excellent read to be repeated or kept nearby.

The best philosophy book I've read in months.

Short read, but a treasure trove of information on stoicism.

This was such an excellent book.

Timeless classic aphorisms.

I'm very impressed by this book.

Further proof that Epictetus is my favorite philosopher.

Highly recommended for fans of [b:Discourses and Selected Writings|4143812|Discourses and Selected Writings|Epictetus|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1311645700l/4143812._SY75_.jpg|45849355]

Ok, this had one too many translations. It was translated at one point, and then this version was "rendered into contemporary English" in 2017. It seemed they may have been loose, but I haven't read the original to know. The topics were broad and the advice was high level -- not my kind of book.
