I said after the first book that I loved it despite the fact that I don't like horror. This one just tipped too far into the dark side, so I personally didn't enjoy it. These are still excellent characters, and it's still compelling reading, but I can't say I liked it. If there's a third book, I don't think I'll read it, but I'd still definitely recommend it to anyone who does like horror.

Mourning the loss of Konrad, Mr. Frankenstein has ordered the books from the hidden library burned and the well filled and bricked up. But Victor finds a metal box that doesn't burn in the fire of books. Inside the box is the key for enter a dimension that holds the dead. He tries out the instructions and is able to meet up with his brother once again. Elizabeth and Henry visit the land of the dead with him. Victor's jealousy of Elizabeth and Konrad's love don't prevent him from trying to resurrect his twin. Events unfold that work to bring an evil spirit into the land of the living and Victor and his friends must fight their temptations and desire to reunite with their beloved Konrad to keep the world safe from destruction.
Oppel's Victor Frankenstein is so imperfect yet real. I love this series!

Anything Kenneth Oppel is worth the read. Compared to many of his past novels, this one is by far the creepiest. At the same time though, it does make you think about life, death, love, morals, and a few other things that have to be associated with a retelling of Frankenstein.

I love the premise and find a lot of the individual elements intriguing, but (just as I did with the first in the series) I think the climax is over the top. That said, it's nice to see a YA narrator who is unapologetically unsympathetic.

What an amazing adventure of a book. I'd read [b:This Dark Endeavor|9779094|This Dark Endeavor (The Apprenticeship of Victor Frankenstein, #1)|Kenneth Oppel|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1339610786s/9779094.jpg|14668834], book 1, a while ago and absolutely loved it. Dark and gothic, it took me to an unbelievable time and through awful tragedy.
and here we are, Elizabeth and Victor, after that tragedy. Even Henry is touched by the loss. When Victor burned the dark library and all it held, I really couldn't imagine where this could go.
But then the life board, the pendulum, the creepy words. The clock, the elixir and the story just took off. I'm still reeling a bit, from all that happened. It was a great book 2.

This was the sequel to This Dark Endeavour, which I really enjoyed. This book wasn't as good. I really do like the concept of setting up the Frankenstein story, but this book seemed a little too far-fetched even for that. Some parts were just plain weird. And I felt like it had some very negative vibes about religion. I couldn't bring myself to put it down, though; the story is really compelling, and I did overall like the book. 3.5 stars

OH MY GOODNESS! This is such an amazing series. Oppel is a genius. It was so hard for me to put the book down and it all ties in so well. It obviously is a little unbelievable but at the same time you just accept it. Usually I would scoff at some of the ideas but not in this book. I want it!

Highly enjoyable. This is an incredible series; it arrested my mind and will stay with me for a very long time, I think. If there is a third book, I'll certainly read it, but if not, I'm content with how it ended.
Such Wicked Intent, through all its weird and disturbing moments, was very well written. I don't think I've read anything quite like it. There were many differences between it and This Dark Endeavour (the latter of which could do no wrong in my eyes); it was much more strange and 'magical' (in a dark, disturbing sense), and outlandish. But it was so well written, the plot so engaging, that I couldn't resist it.
