Unexpectedly eloquent this is a five star pamphlet for the intended audience, but the experience was only above average for a jaundiced janitor with existential impairment.

Snyder nearly died from an undiagnosed condition just before the pandemic. His ordeal delineated many of the failures of the American health care system. He may have had Covid then but of course there wasn’t available testing. He kept a diary during his hospitalization and such engendered this book.

Going to give this to a friend’s daughter, she’s a nurse who was put at risk by the systematic shortcomings.

As with “On Tyranny,” Snyder succinctly & accurately diagnoses and explains complicated systems in easily digestible chunks that bring clarity. These brief treatises are a clarion call to action. Snyder emphatically demonstrates that the right-to-health is paramount to enjoying the freedom & liberty enshrined in our Constitution.

I did not enjoy listening to Snyder talking about his time in the hospital because hearing about medical problems makes me uncomfortable/gives me anxiety. But I really appreciated what he had to say about the US healthcare system and how broken it is. Hearing Snyder compare the US healthcare system to the Austrian system, especially in maternal healthcare and childcare/paternity leave, was so enlightening. Definitely worth a listen—it’s like 2-3 hours on audiobook.

If you have any interest in health policy or the U.S. medical system, read this book. Be prepared to be angry.
