This is a reflective and encouraging read that challenges believers to think about God throughout their daily lives, no matter what they’re doing. Brother Lawrence’s simple approach to communion with God is inspiring and reminds us to seek His presence in all things.

However, I found that the book doesn’t emphasise reading Scripture as a way to know God, which is essential. Instead, it suggests that thinking about God constantly is the key to knowing Him, which, while valuable, should be balanced with studying His Word.

Another concern was the idea of not taking medicine to demonstrate faith in God for healing. While God can and does heal supernaturally, He also works through doctors and medicine, and using them doesn’t mean a lack of faith.

Overall, this book offers a good reminder of practicing God’s presence in daily life, but it should be read with discernment and balanced with a strong foundation in Scripture.

A great read that should be read every couple of years and should be recommended to other believers!!!

This is a great little book!

It is a curious and interesting reflection on a life of "lived faith," finding the presence of God in the most mundane and simple things. It is composed in brief excerpts, and can be read in a hurry. The challenge is to really take it in small sections, really spend time with it, considering what Brother Lawrence is sharing and trying to say through the voice of his abbot.

It is a fine example of a faithful life, but at the same time an intimidating challenge to even begin to exercise the faith that Brother Lawrence exhibited. In some ways, it can make one envious, covetous of such a strong inner life and trust in God's presence and how to recognize it.

A great starting point for personal reflection on God's presence not requiring grand, epic, heroic acts, but simple things like cleaning the kitchen or picking up straw, etc.

I'd have to agree with another review that while this book is good and inspiring, it has this air of singularity. A big part of the Bible is how the Christian life is meant to be loved in fellowship, but it seems brother Lawrence was of a "just him and God" mentality. I find this book both comforting and challenging in its ideals, but I don't think it's written for anyone who doesn't already have knowledge of scripture.
