I did enjoy this despite how many times the MMC was described as being ~extra masculine~

I loved this book, the characters and the story were brilliant and I will be reading the rest in this series!
The most important thing to know is that I am not a big reader of historical romance. It isn't a sub-genre that I typically gravitate towards and I'm navigating my way around finding some authors that I would like. I've heard a lot of Lisa Kleypas and decided to go for her Wallflower series and it did not disappoint.
Secrets of a Summer Night focuses on Annabelle who is searching for a husband; however, there are certain elements about her family circumstances that prevent this from happening. At a ball, Annabelle befriends three other women who are also considered wallflowers. Together they make a pact that they would do everything they could to support each other in finding suitable husbands. At this same ball, readers are introduced to the infamous Simon Hunt who clearly has an attraction for Annabelle, but does believe in the idea of marriage. One of my favorite things about this novel was definitely the relationship that was developed between Annabelle and the other three women. It felt genuine and real. And watching the way that they interacted made me even more excited for the next books in the series. It was also great watching the banter between Annabelle and Simon. Simon was completely swoon worthy and there were several moments that I found myself laughing out loud. In reading this book, I also learned that I am a fan of historical romances that give readers insight to the relationship after the HEA. I thought that I was going to find this part of the novel to be slow, but I really enjoyed watching the relationship between Simon and Annabelle continue to develop even after they found their way to each other.
I think that I would have rated this a little higher; however, Annabelle is definitely a character that can be difficult to relate to. She gives off an air of being stuck up during certain scenes. While I was empathetic to her circumstances, it was difficult to connect to her in some situations. Overall, I must say that I did enjoy my read of this and can't wait to pick up the next books in the series. This was a good example of a relationship that developed over time. If you're looking for a new historical romance series to check out, I would definitely recommend considering this one.

Nice, easy read. It is very predictable and follows the basic historical romance formula but it was still very enjoyable. Couldn't put it down.
I don't know how I've never read this. I really enjoyed it and loved seeing where the Wallflowers series started.
I’ve been avoiding historical romances. Not for any particular reason - I’ve always enjoyed reading historical fiction, adore Jane Austen and watched Bridgerton fanatically. Maybe I just prefer stories about modern women? Then I listened to all 3 parts of the Heaving Bosoms podcast on St. Vincent and knew I had to read this series. And because I am the way I am, I had to start at Book 1. Honestly? I really enjoyed it. I found Annabelle to be refreshing and daring and strong and Simon was pretty dreamy. I only wish we could’ve seen a bit of his evolution - how did he go from eternal bachelor to marriage?

Great enemies to lovers book. Or at least she hates him, I didn’t get the impression that the feeling was mutual...
I was at first skeptical at how much book remained after the wedding, but was intrigued by the layers of politics and sociology added to the story by those chapters

First time reading Lisa Kleypas and I now have books 2-4 checked out at the library, can’t wait to dive in! The wallflowers!! This was such a delight, and Annabelle and Simon have SUCHHHHH chemistry and banter and I just love them.
Didn’t love the subplot with Annabelle’s mother (for so many reasons but BOO @ SHITTY MEN IM SO GLAD PHILLIPA STABBED THE RATBAG!) because god it just made my heart hurt.
I thought this dragged a bit in the middle, but the EXPLODING FOUNDRY AT THE END more than made up for it. AND WESTCLIFF AND ANNABELLE WORKING TOGETHER TO FREE SIMON!!! (Also I am frothing at the mouth to see Westcliff and Lillian square off next book, that’s gonna be DELICIOUS.)
