To a modern reader, this wasn't really a detective novel. There is a murder or two but they're so insignificant and solving them takes a backseat while we're walked through the key romance of the story, which I wasn't really that into.

Also, I'm sorry but Christie's idea of a Balkan nation state is super cringey - she literally called it Herzoslovakia and had its citizens speak like Yoda ("war there may be" and "know this I do not").

There were exactly two enjoyable characters: Lord Caterham and Battle, although the latter could've been given more presence. 2.5/5

For me, The Secret of Chimneys was a bit of a slow start, although I'm not sure why. I should probably chalk it up to the middle of a reading slump, & ignore it for reviewing purposes.

Written in 1925, this is one of Agatha Christie's earlier works, which I really enjoy. It combines murder, international intrigue, & romance. Maybe I'm getting better at guessing who the culprit is, after a year of reading her books, but I had my suspicions about a certain character, & I was finally right! (Although, I was thrown by the many red herrings & plot twists & didn't know the motive or how the plot all came about until the final reveal.) It was thoroughly enjoyable.

This one was particularly clever in my opinion. And Christie did a marvelous job drawing us into the agendas of various characters and the geopolitical conflict at the center of the story. This one also contained a large group of likeable characters, well developed and fun to follow. I'll take Poirot over Battle anyway, yet I really enjoyed this one!

2.5 stars. This is my 18th Agatha Christie novel and my least favorite so far. I guess AC novels that tackle international relations or have political aspects to it are not just for me. There was too much going on with this one that I found the plot confusing. The revelation on the true identity of Anthony Cade was a bit underwhelming for me.

This one was a struggle - it starts off with too many characters and plot lines, but the end did surprise me and it had fun repartee. Racially insensitive to pretty much anyone who isn’t English.

A very smooth read.
It usually takes a slow start to any of the non Poirot books of Agathas but this novel drew me in instantly.
Very easy to follow the storyline & the characters are instantly likeable.

Shes does it again. Another mystery I was nowhere near figuring out.

Ummm. This one was fine. I listened to it as an audiobook (my usual method with Agatha Christie novels) and found it a little hard to follow at times. But even a mediocre Christie is pretty good.

There were some confusing parts with the names but Anthony Cade is quite charming.

Pre svega sram me bilo što tek sada čitam Agatu Kristi! Čuo sam mnogo puta o njoj i njenim romanima, naravno sve najbolje.
