Good idea, not a very good execution

I liked the idea of a fertility clinic that plays with genetics to produce the child of your dreams (not just by choosing boy/girl, eye color and the likes, but also the personality traits). But I felt it fell a bit short... Maybe if it was in a bigger format the story would feel better

Really interesting concept of the future of genetic engineering with picking out who your child will be (especially after reading Codebreaker). Weird execution especially towards the end

The Amazon Forward Collection, featuring six short stories from well-regarded sci-fi authors, has been a real blast. It might actually be my favorite Kindle Unlimited checkout to date. Unfortunately, You Have Arrived at Your Destination was just the weakest link in an otherwise very strong chain.

All of the stories in this series hit close enough to home while discussing technology just beyond our grasp. In this case, we're looking at genetic embryo engineering (already a thing) but using the profile of these embryos to view snapshots of their future lives.

This story started lovely and intriguing, then gradually turned into a drunken mess. I will avoid spoiler-y details, but please know, the character drives his mostly-autonomous Tesla drunk, and makes horribly impulsive decisions, including no fewer than 3 crimes??

Read the series, and skip this one. Or don't, so you appreciate the others that much more.

You have arrived at your destination is reminiscent of Gattaca and the messages Black Mirror tries to convey. If these types of stories about the possibilities and dangers technological innovation poses interest you, you’ll definitely find this short story intriguing.
This is the first story from the Forward collection I’ve read and I’m pleasantly surprised.
The reflective nature might not be everyone’s cup of tea but I find it raises very important questions in the age we live in - ones that won’t stay hypothetical too much longer. While we do get Sam’s perspective and conclusion on the subject, we are not forced to agree. I like that the story presents us with the circumstances and possible outcomes and lets us decide which choice we would make if this were our problem.
The writing style and narrative voice are light while the topics and dialogue are heavy which creates a contrast I love in sci-fi works.
