I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it had me smiling and crying (first book to make me cry), I am thinking it’s because as a mother and reading the struggles this character Elsa faced really hit home and how everything she did was for her children, it was honestly so well written and kept me intrigued the whole time! I would love to see this as a movie.
I was shocked by the ending, and shocked that certain characters never came back to the story I kept hoping for that, but I was happy with the happiness that did occur for this family in the end.
I recommend this to anyone of all ages!
However this book is very direct, it does not blanket any topics so may be a little heavy some of the scenes for some people.

As a history major, I always appreciate a well-written historical fiction novel, and Kristin Hannah's "The Four Winds" certainly delivers. Set during the Great Depression, the novel explores the experiences of one family in Texas as they struggle to survive amidst the Dust Bowl and the economic devastation of the era.
Hannah's writing is vivid and immersive, transporting readers to a time and place that feels both familiar and distant. The characters are richly drawn and sympathetic, particularly the protagonist, Elsa, who must confront incredible hardship and adversity in order to keep her family together.
At times, the novel can be bleak and harrowing, but there is also a sense of resilience and hope that pervades the story. Hannah does an excellent job of balancing the harsh realities of the time period with moments of beauty and tenderness.
Overall, I found "The Four Winds" to be a powerful and moving novel that offers a compelling portrait of a difficult time in American history. It's not always an easy read, but it's a rewarding one that I would highly recommend to anyone interested in the genre. I would give it a solid 4.25 out of 5 stars.

I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS BOOK. The characters were so well written and three dimensional. Every time I thought Elsa or Loretta were going to choose a path or do something it always turned out the complete opposite. The story and plot were interesting, and I loved the year jumps and migration aspects from Texas to California. This made me want to do more research into the dust bowl and the social impacts it had. 10/10 would read another Kristin Hannah book again ALSO THE END MADE ME CRY.

This was a beautiful story. I’ll admit I didn’t know much about the time of migrant workers and their struggles, and although this was a fictionalized story, I felt the stories of the real people who suffered during that time was well represented. The description of difficult mother/daughter relationship between stubborn teenagers and their loving mothers was so well done. The life of Elsa Martinelli wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, it felt raw and real and let my attention throughout the whole story. I sobbed and I laughed along with these characters as they grew and struggled. The character growth in this book was awe-inspiring. I highly recommend.

This book was incredible. The themes of love and resilience were inspiring and it showed that you should always stand up for what you believe in.
