Rating is based on how much I loved this series as a teen. This will be the last time I ever read it. It was great how everything was tied up, but the finale in the place that is no more was not even that exciting. I find it hard to believe I actually loved this series and read it multiple times. So glad it is over lol

That is a satisfying conclusion. It may not be a perfect last book; there are certain parts that are too predictable and dragging; but you feel content when you finish it.
This series is a "comfort and cozy" epic fantasy, the kind you would like to read on a cold day, sipping a hot coffee, wrapped up in a blanket. It has more or less got a simple plot and magic system but it grows over you because of well-designed characters, their traits, interactions and friendships. The narration by Cameron Beierle adds depth to this, with the individual character accents and makes it a great listen.

So this one had a different narrator. Not sure why. No matter, he did just fine and didn't pronounce anything strangely.
It's always bittersweet coming to the end of a series,. Even if you've read it before. Even if it's part of one of your favourite series. You cry. You laugh. I did both.
I wish there'd been another series. While I think Garion's story is done, there could absolutely have been something for his children to do. I would have liked to find out how it goes with Eriond becoming the god of all this world, since that was apparently his purpose all along. Alas. It shall never be. All I can do is hope that perhaps one day we might get a TV series of The Belgariad and this.
4 or of 5 stars.

I believe all story lines were wrapped up concisely and I was satisfied with all the romances. I'm gonna miss the characters and the story but I'm also glad I've finished the series.

Nooooooo! I didn't want this to end! :(
By the gods, what can I say about this/these book(s) that I haven't said already? I love them. I don't think I've enjoyed a series this much since Lord of the Rings. Granted, the story line is a little basic at times, it's not the most innovating of plots, if you're a seasoned fantasy reader, you're not in for too many surprises (the flip side is this would be ideal if you want to try fantasy for the first time though) but the characters, the dialogue, the writing itself, the world....love love love. All I could say is, I wish he had made them longer. There's not a character in there that I didn't like. All remarks I could make are nitpicky, personal things. Just read it.
One thing I loved about Lord of the Rings a lot, which few other people seemed to do, is that it doesn't end right after the climax but slowly drifts to a close giving you time to say goodbye to the characters you've accompagnied for so long. The Mallorean is one of the few other ones I know of that does this. All the more reason for me to like it. I shall end this review by quoting Mr. Eddings with his final words of the series: "And so my children, the time has come to close the book. There will be other days and other stories, but this tale is finished."
2023 Reread: I'm not quite as ravingly enthousiastic as I was 9 years ago. I do miss that more optimistic fella that I was back then. I'm a bit more critical of it this time around. The characters, fun though they are, do seem to be a bit too archetypical and lacking in growth and sadly a bit stereotypical as well. The 80s/90s ideas about men, women and relationships got a bit tiresome at times, like with his contemporary Robert Jordan. Also, Eddings really can't write emotions well, which is why hiding them seems to be a trait all characters share and seem to have no desire to change. Still it was a fun reread quest with characters that are a joy to be around with a lot of great, witty dialogue and I'm happy to see that this time around I once again really enjoyed the ending. There's a very high probability, bordering on a certainty, that I'll revisit these books sometime in the future.

And now I've come to the end of this Eddings journey. These books are dated and simple. That doesn't make them bad. Just depends what you are looking to read. I saw a review at some point that said it should be darker and I think it's because there's some darkness and dark concepts that are quickly mentioned or treated lightly to keep it light which works for these books and the story.
This series is not one of those intense, political, twist & turn, complex built fantasy. It is a cozy winter read. It does immerse you in a world full of colorful characters.
While I enjoyed the sparhawk trilogies more, because I liked more of the characters and felt it moved along quicker, these were not bad and had some great characters. Even some of the little side characters were among my favorite. Vella and Porenn to name a couple.
