As someone who has been a runner off and on as an adult, this book really resonated with me. I’d wanted to be a runner as a teen, but PE coaches laughed and reminded me that I wasn’t built to be a runner. I’ve been taking a break from running because I had lost my love for the sport, getting caught up in meeting pace requirements for races and falling short of my goals. This book reminded me that all I need to be a runner is to run.

Have always loved Lauren Fleshman, and have been so excited for this book ever since she mentioned it years ago on Work Play Love. Inspiring, touching, and encouraging, this is one I will return to again and again and I begin to return to running this year.

A truly insightful look into the world of professional, female athletes. I am so glad I read this and that Lauren Fleshman took the time to tell her story. I wish for a future where the gender gap is not felt so acutely, not only in salary, but also in research, medical care, and mental health care.

I think I would give this five stars, but it broke my heart a bit too much. This should be mandatory reading for all running coaches. As I prepare to send my runner girl off to college to run, I was comforted by the fact that reading this made me feel better about her coach and choice of school and not more nervous. But oooof. So much to digest in this one and so much to overcome. Fleshman made a great stride in smashing the patriarchy of the running world with this one.
