This was a lot of fun! I loved being in a world inspired by Middle Eastern culture, it’s one of my favourite types of world. I will say though that the world building is rough - as in there’s so much that I couldn’t really wrap my head around it. I would feel quite confused and have to read supplementary text to understand the world more.

I loved how descriptive Chakraborty’s writing it! Very easy to read and I can picture everything in my head!

I also listened to the audiobook. Soneela Nankani, as always, is fab. If she narrates, it’s an automatic listen!

Some great twists and action in the book, I devoured it once I was more than half way. Looking forward to the rest of the series, I heard it’s better than book 2!

I’ve read enough fantasy in my life to be able to see the general trends and twists that come with them. Despite this, City of Brass was still a fascinating exploration of a land of djinn and daeva that I can’t wait to read more about. While maybe a little more juvenile than originally advertised (I would’ve ate this up at 16), this book still feels age appropriate and exciting. Also, I love you Dara <3

At the end:

Nahri: I don't wanna >:( (gets threatened w/ blackmail by king) >:'( fine. (She's fine [I think])

Ali: WATER? W H A T D O Y O U M E A N T H E M A R I D S A R E A LI V E. wait. i'm a mari- (gets exiled by king)

Dara: (?) *Nisreen reveals Dara's ring during epilogue* wai-

Though it was somewhat weird reading the scenes leading up to Dara's and Nahri's arrival into the city (cave scene), the result of the wait was well worth it.
