Highly recommend.

It’s snippets of core concepts in a wide range of business areas. A great jump start to business education or jolt to those along the path.

Do you need an MBA to be a success in business? No. But you do need to know how to analyze business financials, work with and lead people, improve systems, and create value.

The Personal MBA is Josh Kaufman's attempt to deliver you the content of an entire MBA for just the price of a book and some time to read it. This is of course exaggerated and since I have never done an MBA I don't know if it is even getting close. What you do get is a really good basic view of how businesses work.

The Personal MBA covers everything that is to know about a business but very superficially. Kaufman covers everything from the foundation of a business, the purpose of a business, marketing your product, keeping the finances in check, selling the product and actually the most interesting part of the book, the systems of a business. Kaufman has chosen to handle all of the subjects to be composed by even smaller concepts all of which takes a maximally a few pages to cover. While this certainly makes it easy to read, it also leaves you with a bitter taste in your mouth should you stumble on a concept you really like.
Luckily the book is supplemented by a generous appendix on recommended books for each subject should you want narrow your focus onto a specific subject.

All in all I would recommend this book for anybody starting a business, or simply wanting to know more about businesses. Its format makes it easy to take as many or few concepts as you would like. One good advice though: Peruse the appendix for books on the subjects that caught your attention the most. Otherwise this is an excellent primer to businesses and how they work.

One can use the book, especially for non-business studies students or anyone, as a business reference book. A comprehensive discussion of almost all the business-related topics I learned at my undergrad level.

One of my favorite non-fictional books of all time. I learned a lot. It's a book that I know I will go back to time and time again.

The first half of the book was what I hoped for -- new business knowledge of marketing, sales, finance, etc. The book gave cursory descriptions of these concepts without ever fully grasping them in scientific/mathematical terms. On the other hand, it never promised to do so, so I find this perfectly excusable.

The second half delved into psychology and systems engineering, which was less insightful for me, as someone coming from a science/engineering background. Often times, I felt things were oversimplified, which was aggravating.

I had high expectations for this book. Sadly, it didn't meet them.

Personal MBA is a very high-level guide to your own MBA program, but it's no replacement for a B-school. It touches on all areas that you might need to know about when starting a business, but doesn't go in enough details to make the knowledge practical.

I like the fact that the chapters are short (1-3 pages) and very direct, but I think the content would be more valuable if it were explored at a deeper level with very solid examples. As it is, most of the advice just feels like "one man's opinion". I'd like to see case studies of people and businesses who applied the principles discussed in the book, and went on to succeed or fail.

If you were thinking of going to Business School, don't drop your plans.
