Amazing. Can't even describe the emotions the book put me through. I think I experienced every single one possible.
I love the way the writer made me "fall" for the bad guy of the story. Which is near impossible to do when you know he's kidnapped an innocent young girl.
Love love love

Wow. I'm actually disturbed with how quickly I was sucked into this book and how much the story captivated me. Absolutely horrible situation and made me physically sick to think of what Olivia was going through, but the strange connection with Caleb was addicting and I couldn't stop reading.
Tengo muchos sentimientos encontrados.

I'm not sure that it is morally right to have loved this story. And I think it's probably even more wrong to love Caleb. But if it is wrong, then I guess I don't want to be right. My emotions are all over the place right now and I am definitely digging into the second book tonight. Sorry kids...it's sandwiches for supper tonight and early bedtime!
This book took me on a bit of a ride. I liked, I hated it, and it really wasn't what I was expecting. I thought I was getting a twisted love story, which, to some extent, I got. But besides that, it was was a journey of self exploration for each of the main characters took as they related to each other. It left me with a bit of a dark mood and a lot questions about what was going to happen to the characters. It's worth a read, but it is not light.
This book was just dark and crazy and had some twists I never expected.
I couldn't put it down, and loved the way it went back and forth to the dark memories Caleb had.
I couldn't wait to read the other two.

Intensely Intriguing...
When I first heard about this story and perused some of the reviews for it I figured I was being sold another glorified master/slave, dom/sub fantasy. Because of my background friends love to forward titles they think will somehow shock me, news flash, they rarely do. So, at first I figured "Captive in the Dark" by CJ Roberts would be yet another of the stereotypical, "guy spanks, binds, isolates, sexually manipulates girl into realizing she likes being submissive" and hence she eventually falls in love with her master. But, that is most definitely NOT this story! And oh how refreshing it was to be wrong.
Despite being fairly short at only 15 chapters overall. As well as, feeling some of the chapters were rushed and nipped a bit tight for the complex content involved. Roberts still managed to create a literary backdrop which immediately immerses you uncomfortably deep within the landscape of sexual predator and prey.
Captive in the Dark is an intensely dark, forboding work that instantly brought to my mind the phrase, "...like a spider to a fly..." after only the first few sentences. Roberts plays dangerously with the line between submission and stockholm. Obliterates the boundaries between arousing an acceptance of one's true nature and breaking down a human's spirit like one would break a horse. So blurry are the lines between reality and sexual trauma you can't help but read on no matter how uncomfortably your stomach churns at the psychological manipulation and violence.
This book is NOT for the easily disturbed, offended, or faint of heart. But if you are brave enough to read it, you will be rewarded with a rich textual tapestry designed to push the limits of your emotional mind and make you think deeply about the subjects within.
This book goes far beyond the concepts of dom/sub, master/slave, or even the realm of dominent submissives. Yes, Caleb is a sadistic predator expertly filling his role as master to Livvie. Yes, Livvie is submissive in her need and longing for emotional shelter from Caleb despite his true intentions for her. But then again, that's the point, neither are truly what they appear at their cores. Both have been born from horrific neglect and sexual violence, and once put together morph and merge into something even they don't recognize, and THAT is where the true beauty of this story lies!
I look forward to seeing how Caleb and Livvie's journey continues in book two.

WOW just WOW
To be honest this book came up many times for me when I was looking for a book to read but every time I brushed it off because it seemed to dark and twisted for my liking, my thoughts were I don't want to spend an entire book hating a character. Boy was I ever wrong.
The first part of the book I felt guilty liking Caleb, I found myself liking him and then being reminded that even though he is nice to Olivia he has done this with many other girls. The thing with that is the writing is just that good, C.L Roberts does an amazing job setting you up to not only love but hate Caleb all at once and even root for him in his revenge journey.
I love Olivia's stubborn nature, its inspiring how no matter how scared she is she doesn't break easily as well as she understands when to turn it off and give in to survive.
The Characters start to build a small bond and to me their bond has a little "Beauty and the Beast" feel to it, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, we did watch the beast kill for bell and Caleb certainly kills for Olivia.
Also sadly a cliffhanger ending, but I guess since all the books are out I am not to sad about that, seems to be the only upside to my coming late to this book party.

Dark dark dark story....I would have wish it a little more darker. Kidnap and to be sold has a sex slave. Livvie is a great strong female character
Loved it! It was dark, exotic, and captivating! Excited for the next in this series.
