I had a good time reading this book. I enjoy a romance novel and the author wrote about how the characters navigated grief beautifully.
However, the book felt a little disjointed. There were the scenes that happened in LA and the scenes in NJ and the two felt like they belonged in two separate stories. The characters felt totally different moving from one location to the next.I found the ending of the book super strange. The chapter about the earthquake felt totally irrelevant and I genuinely questioned for a moment if the main characters were going to be killed off. I didn’t like that it ended with what felt like totally random details about their wedding. I felt like the story was satisfactorily wrapped up prior and it was unnecessary

I look forward to seeing Kuang's adaptation of People We Meet on Vacation. I liked her writing style and think that the pace lends itself very well for screen (something she has quite excelled in). But, I could not get behind the premise of the book and that alone leaves me here. Both liking it and leaving it in a world so far into fiction that it lost me along the way.

Absolutely loved this book. It had so much heart; vulnerability; banter and basically just about everything I could need from a romance novel. Connecting with Helen and her relationship to her parents; her mom especially and taking her through this journey where a tragedy brings two people together and how often in life we are not ok or don’t feel worthy enough so we through away something/something that’s willing to accept and grow with all our flaws. The writing was beautiful. My heart broke for these two people in several ways even while anxiously waiting for them to figure it out. I’m also glad that it didn’t go down as easy with her parents because that does feel more natural. But my heart was happy and full with the ending. Beautiful

The smut was good, the story was not. Ok, I am all for the romance-plus genre (romances with heavier themes woven in), but this was a swing and a miss for me. Hiding the next part because of some light spoilers, though it's all revealed early in the book.
This book is tough to rate because I have major issues with the story, but I actually really liked Grant and Helen's relationship as long as I removed it from the overarching story. Also, the audio was...not great.
Spoiler
These two characters are connected because Helen's little sister died by suicide after jumping in front of an unknowing Grant's car when they were all teenagers. Obviously, Helen has been carrying a bit of hate for Grant since then. When out of nowhere they are semi-forced to work together as adults 12 years later, what brings them together as a couple is...sexual chemistry. I'm sorry—WHAT. You CANNOT convince me that sexual chemistry is enough to overcome that type of history. This book is tough to rate because I have major issues with the story, but I actually really liked Grant and Helen's relationship as long as I removed it from the overarching story. Also, the audio was...not great.
