It has a deeper agenda than most pop fiction but never really captures the true introspect of mental illness. Readable, if not fantastic.

Really enjoyed this. Started off well, then got way too footbally and I glazed over...then wrapped things up with a bow.

Great book if you don't mind reading between the lines. Pat's story is never really explained--he seems to have lost a lot of intelligence due to traumatic brain injury (he was a history professor?) but just how isn't really explained. It's a glimpse into the life of a troubled northeastern family.

This book is just awesome. Great characters, and some of the best writing of a character's "thoughts" I've read in a long time.

The book dives deep into Pat’s manic mind and every character seems to spend some time in their own version of “the bad place.” It’s messy, raw, and real—a reminder that no one is untouched by struggle.

I especially loved the “Dance Away Depression” competition—such a perfect symbol for finding joy in the middle of the storm. One thing that did trip me up was how often the author points out that Danny is black. It read like Pat had never met a Black man before. Maybe the intention was to show how mental health connects us across differences, but the execution missed the mark for me.

I know this is very odd, but I liked the movie better, even though it was way different from the book. I understand that the point of view was a severe bipolar individual, but it did not flow well and was very childlike--which made it very hard to read.

Really disappointing! Okay, so it's a man fighting to find his one true love once again, with some struggles in between...not much else to it, unfortunately (am I missing something?). I really wanted to like this, especially because they made it into a movie. I even refused to read the description so I wouldn't spoil anything....but there was nothing to spoil. It was very predictable, writing was okay, and the storyline could've been a lot better! Sorry, Silver Lining's Fans, but I will not be referring this book to anyone!.

I really enjoyed this book. It made me even more sensitive to mental health problems that many people suffer with and many others do not understand. A Very well-written book to keep you turning pages to find out what in the world is going on and ends perfectly!!

This is one of those rare instances where the movie is better than the book. However, I did still really enjoy this, everyone in it is kind of fucked up but I think thats what makes it enjoyable.

i will say whoever called this an adult Perks of being a wallflower actually NAILED that description. The way this is written is so reminiscent of that book but just a lot funnier.

Anyway if you like the movie I def think this is still worth a go. I had fun in a depressing way.
