Another good In Death book! I had my suspicions about the murderer throughout and was not surprised by who it was but enjoyed the getting there.
Eve has her wedding to get ready for and needs to clear her best friend of a murder charge. This makes for a pretty fast paced kind of plot. We get more of Eve's background in this one, as heartbreaking as her past is. She also is opening up to people more and I love seeing her not so alone in the world. She has found her place and her people and will protect them.
Roarke, I still want more about. Yes he is rich and so sweet to Eve and her people. But I want more of what makes him tick.
Peabody is entertaining and I like that she was getting more page time here as well. Same with Feeney of course. Its the side characters that make these books so worth it.

It was refreshing to see Eve opening up in this book. Seeing her have to deal with the challenges of this book and make some hard decisions that could effect both her career and professional life really adds to the development of her character. Roarke as always standing by and giving the support she desperately needs, (although she fights him the entire way).

Easy to read and a good quick detective novel. Lots of cliches and over the top moments but I still found myself wanting to keep reading til the end

Loved the story and the developing relationship between Roarke and Eve. Love that the murder mystery had so many twists and turns as well. Always a plus! :)

Oh thank God Rourke wasn't a suspect in this one so I didn't have to listen to him throwing tantrums about Dallas, ya know, DOING HER JOB. That said, wtf with even an alternate reality futuristic NYPD allowing the main suspect's BEST FRIEND to be the lead detective on the murder case in which the main suspect is... suspected?

Also called the murderer well in advance of the reveal in this one.

Still hate Rourke, but I like all of the other regulars enough that it kinda balances out.

Im really enjoying this series. Love the dynamics between Eve and Roarke. Love Eve’s friendship with Mavis. Unfortunately I worked out the twist reasonably early on.

Real score 4.27. Mmmmm. Interesting. I love the convoluted near-future world and it’s vagaries. It’s like a modern version of looking forward to the future in the 50s tied together with a police procedural: something usually not lent to flights of fantasy. Great combo.
