I had a lot of second hand embarrassment with this bookđ
I still love the Aunties, but unfortunately in this round, I didnât really care for Meddy -she was kinda annoying. Also, figured out the plot by the second chapter, so that was disappointing
So disappointing because the first book was amazing. This one lacked the charm
Jesse Q. Sutanto has done it again. I cackled my whole way through this one, too. Truly a delightful and impossibly perfect combo of romcom, black comedy, and cozy mystery.
I love this series so much. The broken English used by aunts and their will to kill the man no matter what, made me go guffaw like anything. It will be very hard on my side to wait for the next book in series.

Jesse Q. Sutanto has done it again!!! Love that we got to have a second adventure with the Aunties!
Ahh... I'm torn. I found some parts to be funny and endearing. But most of the times I just feel like... the whole story is over-the-top ridiculous. Granted, that may be what the author aimed to do -- to showcase the eccentricity of the these aunties, but I just can't wrap my head around it. It's a chaotic mess, honestly.
On what supposed to be the BIGGEST day of your life, you're juggling the possibilities of a mafia family wanting to take out a guest during your wedding day and baby-sitting your over-the-top, eccentric, komodo-dragon-hat-slash-fascinator wearing aunties and mother. Yikes. And then you got these normal, unassuming in-laws. And then everything got messed up.
And your aunties got high on Mary-Joanna and your mother got drunk from a glass of champagne. Fun, fun, fun all around. As I said, chaotic mess.

Somehow this book is even more ridiculous then the first!
To like this book, you've got to be able to suspend all rational thought and just go along with it. When doing so, it becomes a fun, easy read.

If you loved the first Aunties book, then you are in for a WILD ride with this follow up!
Before diving in, I want to first mention the authorâs note at the beginning. She discusses Asian diaspora and how not all Asians and Asian families are the same and assumptions/ stereotypes shouldn't be made because the truth is they can be polar opposites. This note totally resonated with my Chinese American self and I really appreciated it to start!
The story centers around Meddy and Nathanâs impending wedding which is full of chaos! From chapter one I was already giggling at being thrown back into Meddyâs life with her hilariously endearing family. Meddy and her mother + aunties return in all their wonderful and fiery glory and do they know how to make an entrance!
Now, mix Meddyâs family with another crazy bunch and madness ensues! Staphanie (love the name) along with her uncles and grandmother seem like the perfect wedding vendors! But then Meddy realizes theyâre actually mafia and planning to take out a target at the wedding⌠and of course Meddy and the aunties cannot have that happening!
What proceeds is more laugh out loud moments and shenanigans! Somehow these aunties always happen to find themselves in unthinkable situations yet somehow manage to (unknowingly?) finesse their way out of it all!
Part mystery, part romance & family, this book covers it all and had me hooked! I wanted to know about the mafia ties and who was being targeted and why! The final reveal ended up making so much sense and I loved seeing everything come full circle and connect with the first book.
Like I mentioned earlier, I also loved the conversation around culture and family and how apparent the stark contrasts between Meddyâs traditional Indo-Chinese one vs Nathanâs more proper mixed British Chinese one. There were moments where you could really feel Meddyâs conflict over her familyâs antics, but ultimately I loved the message that family is family!
This one was a super quick read and I highly recommend if you love cozy mysteries!
