I was immediately drawn into and sold on this plot. A badass FMC who is the secret heir to the thrown while those around her are truly the scum of the realm. You get villain POV and you really feel how disgusting our bad guys are. I love hating our villains and god these ones suck. I’m just waiting for Emilia to get hers. Also there is a wyvern and fated mates. The writing was a little clunky and lacked nuance but I don’t care the story is so good!

I loved this introduction to Emilia Jae's writing. The Dagger and the Forbidden Heir is a fast-paced adventure story with fae, political intrigue, and star-crossed lovers.

The story follows multiple points of view (including an unexpected one) that all have different experiences and contribute to the changing world within he story. I loved how fun and stabby our FMC was, but I think her fraidy cat brother Finn truly won my heart. He was just a fun character. I also enjoyed meeting Jace, a human, on the other side of the fight from Lia. These two go toe to toe and yet are constantly pulled toward each other. Emilia Jae rounds out the cast of characters with some side characters in Gage, Zaylah, Avery and Lukas.

This series is fun, face-paced, and enjoyable. You don't want to miss this series.

The writing isn’t very developed, tropes are over the top in your face and not developed well and really stacked on top of each other, dialogue needs work.

however, it’s a really fun, quick and easy read and the plot foundation is interesting- just again, kind of sped through and not fleshed out well. will read the rest of the series though!

“A small giggle left the chest I was holding so tightly to my ear. I lowered her body down to see a mischievous grin spread across her filthy, infuriatingly beautiful face, and the dagger held in her hand, pointed directly at my throat.”

What a powerful series! I was hooked from the very first chapter. Lia is a warrior with a heart of gold, and seeing her compassion for the humans was heartbreaking. Her bond with the king however, was my favourite thing. I have a soft spot for daughter-fathers relationships.

“There was never a moment in my life that you were not wanted, Elianna. I could not be prouder of you. It kills me every day to not be able to name you as my heir.”

This books are fast paced and filled to the brim with action. All the characters are so interesting, and are intricate parts of the story. The villains are villaining, the romance is romancing and everything is crafted in the perfect measure.
Lia our protagonist is absolutely delightful. I love reading about strong women and she is a powerhouse. She can fight and she does it well. She is the commander of her army and earned the respect of her peers, whilst enduring the cruelty of the Queen and prince.

Killian is the perfect villain, definitely wicked, with rotten morals and repulsive thoughts, but his POVS were truly intriguing and I could not stop wanting to read.

And Jace!! Wow. That was a true enemies to lovers encounter. I loved reading about their journey and the slow relationship building. It was sweet and vulnerable.

Finally, the found family. I am not gonna spoiler anything, but it was truly one of the highlights of the book. Of both sides ;)

dnf at 30%, The writing is shit—the author over explains everything and yet can’t even worldbuild, The characters are over a century old and yet act like teenagers, and not even halfway in the FMC has said about five times that she is CAPTAIN (don’t wear it out
