This was not my favorite Cinderella story, but it was fun, and I enjoyed seeing Ramayan. This was also a good wrap up for the Fairy Godmother.

These Fables spinoff books have always been fascinating to me.
Just what about these stand alone stories are so worthy to be a part of canon on the definitive series that got me on my magical-meets-the-mundane kick?
On one hand, you could argue that it's giving more spotlight to several characters from the series proper that never got more attention. But HELLO?! CINDERELLA ALREADY HAD 2 BOOKS OF HER OWN!
It's not so bad really since part of the charm of the entirety of Fables is seeing where the characters you know from the fairy tales are doing now, and after we find out what happened to the girl with the glass-formerly-fur shoes, we find out what happened to other characters from her tale.
The short version?
They ain't doing so well.
I was a little confused when they showed one of the evil stepsisters with cyborg legs...then I remembered the version that AIN'T Disney and remembered her mutilated feet!

All in all, a decent globe-trotting action-spy adventure since that gives them more excuses to throw more international Fables into the mix, but slightly hampered by the fact the bad guy isn't caught since her comeuppance will come in the main storyline.

Not bad. But not terribly interesting plot-wise.

"And if there's one thing I hate more than trolls, it's indentured servitude. Just ask my stepmother."

Now, THIS is more like it. This story connects Cinderella, THE Fairy Godmother, Crispin (the Shoemaker from 'The Elves & the Shoemaker'), some trolls, King Valemon (the polar bear king from Norwegian fairy tales), Ramayan (the blue-skinned hero from an India epic), the Three Blind Mice and Snow White (along with some other Fables staples).

Someone makes an assassination attempt on Snow White and who better to call back into service than Fabletown's best spy, Cinderella? This one was much more like the first volume of the series in that it was creative, tied a bunch of unexpected characters together and it was fun to read.

It also actually focuses on the female characters we already knew from Fables, which shouldn't ever have been an issue (I'm looking at you, Volume 3).

Disappointing. I've come to the conclusion that I like the idea of this series better than its execution. The art seems juvenile in style, which is an issue twice over. First, because the story elements are designed for mature audiences, and second, when the sketch drafts included as supplements are marginally stronger than the direction chosen for the final characterizations, the specter of 'what might have been' is raised. I'm not a true fan of the hyper-sexualized covers of Adam Hughes, but at least they are better suited to the narrative tone than Shawn McManus' illustrations.

Just wasn’t a fan of this storyline. I don’t really like Cinderella - I think her character is overly brash and the writers are trying too hard to make her badass and snarky (which is rare with female characters, but definitely possible to do). For that reason, I’ve never really connected with her. This storyline vaguely interested me but didn’t compel me, which is unfortunate. Snow’s appearance was my favourite thing about it really.
