I loved the magic and the Mayan history! It was very slow at times and I with Martín had been a more complex character. It was a great story, but there could have been more depth.

Casiopea is trapped in her grandfather’s house in a small town in Mexico, cleaning floors and attending to the whims of her spoiled cousin. Her dream to escape comes true when she accidentally frees Hun-Kamé, the Mayan god of death-but this dream is quickly becoming a nightmare. Hun-Kamé did not come back whole and Casiopea is forced to travel across the country with him to restore his full self . This book is a dark fairytale inspired by Mexican folklore while also being a fun road-trip novel, like an adult equivalent of "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief."

Not for me! I was interested in the world, the Myths, etc, but I couldn’t really connect with the characters or care about what was going to happen.

Wonderful tale of ancient gods, the humans they interact with, and the bravery of one young girl.

The writing style is just not vibing. It felt too direct, and jumped right into the plot before I felt like I knew the main character yet. I wanted to like this sooo much, because the concept seems amazing, but I just couldn’t get past the writing. I gave it until chapter 4, but I just never felt connected. I felt like I was removed from the story instead of there with the characters

Review: Casiopea Tun is mistreated by family in hopes that one day, she will have money for her and her mother to have a better life. Being left behind as a punishment, Casiopea decides to explore where she never could before. What she discovers leads to the Mayan god of death sending her on a harrowing, life-changing journey.

This was a twisty and interesting read. It was a slower story. I enjoyed the strong-willed main character. The snippets of other characters' perspectives really add to the story.
