Brian’s second book, while maybe not necessary, is very welcome. A little simpler while still the same. I think that the reason chosen to send him back to the woods is very interesting. Who better to learn how to survive from, than someone who actually did it. It is really unfortunate that the notes were lost on the river though. I couldn’t remember if it was this or the reboot that was second in the series, but I’m very excited for the next one.

Third book I read (though, I think, published second after Hatchet). Brian goes back to the wilderness along with Derek, who is there to observe and experience surviving in the wild himself. It was... all right. The Hatchet books are all very short, so I think that more should happen than what actually does and I can't fully seem to get into it. I wanted more interaction with Derek and Brian and trying to survive, mainly, which isn't really the books fault that it veered wildly off that path. Average, overall.

4/5

I really love the Brian's Saga world, there's something oddly comforting about it. Brian being back in the woods is fascinating, I love how he totally switches into survival mode the second he's back. The story was great but there were a lot of jumps, as in one minute he's on a river, the next he's safe, then the book is over. I wish there was more at the end where we go through the rescue and afterwards with Brian instead of hearing about it after the fact. But I do really enjoy how dark this series can get, when Brian has some upsetting thoughts it's really written well, and I appreciate mental health rep in middle grade books - especially PTSD.

But I love this series, Hatchet is such a nostalgic comfort read for me and I don't think anything will make me dislike it or the series. Really looking forward to the next one.

The River by Gary Paulson is a good book about survival and adventure. Around a year before, Brian gets lost in the woods and survives by learning about the woods and how use his environment to his advantage. Now, people want him to do it again to learn about survival and he agrees to do it. While in the woods, the guy taking notes about Brian gets struck by lightning and put into a coma. Brian has to figure out what to do so save the man from dehydration and death.

this was so short and unenjoyable idk.

Another amazing ride of survival. Could not put down. Amazing writing!

I wasn't sure where this series could possibly go...but, they got me and took Brian back to the wild to teach others. I liked the way they introduced the idea, so this was totally fine for a follow-up to the story!
