I loved this book! Debating reading the rest of the series or not

so….. this is unironically one of the best books i’ve read this year.

listen, i didn’t expect to learn so much from a book titled space junk, but here i am!! everything about this was so good—it was incredibly well written, heartfelt and funny, cheesy and ridiculous but only in fun ways. the characters were endearing, the romance was sweet, and i had an absolute blast reading it.

technically, i can’t say where i work in this review, but let’s just say my work environment is remarkably similar to jackie’s. and everything about jackie’s work—which was a much bigger focus than i expected—was so accurate in a way that made me so stupidly happy. even the little throwaway details were spot on, and while i can’t speak to the accuracy of the science, it just all felt familiar and homey. usually, i can’t stand reading books where a main character is a lawyer or otherwise has a similar career field to me, because without fail the author gets something wrong, big or small, and it gets on my last nerve. it’s so obvious here though that someone close to the author (her husband, in this case), actually had nasa experience and i loved seeing all those little nods to it.

anyways! i will be reading the rest of this series asap and i will be recommending this to literally everyone, unprompted.

I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review

4 stars/3 peppers

As a woman in STEM I am generally pretty skeptical of STEM related books (looking at your Ali Hazelwood). However since this really only entailed one main character in STEM rather than two I felt it was handled better than books I've read in the past.

Jackie is a member of mission control at NASA in Houston and dreams of one day becoming an astronaut. BUT since she is a woman in STEM it's required of her to be awkward and introverted (yawn). She forces herself into an 'experiment' to get a social life and has a cast of auxiliary characters thrust upon her. And a mysterious hottie MMC.

The relationship between Flinn and Jackie is pretty evenly matched - they are both naturally inquisitive and like to fix things...maybe even to the detriment of their own relationships. Each carry a lot of baggage that could have easily been dealt with by honest conversation in getting to know each other - which only solidifies why I HATE the use of miscommunication as a plot device. Beware the 3rd act breakup will probably make you want to strangle the characters for a bit.

All in all, this was my first Sara Hudson and she created a world where I genuinely believe she may have wanted to be an astronaut one day with the level of detail she brings to the NASA scenes in this book. Coupled with some standard spicy romance interludes and you have a fun, quirky STEM oriented rom com

The audiobook performances by Samantha Brentmoor and Lee Samuels was perfection. Sam is a staple in my library so I knew what to expect, but Lee was new to me and I was VERY impressed. I will definitely be looking to add more of his titles to my library. They both brought the right level of energy to both the main characters but also the main side characters (Rose, Trish, Holt in particular).

Ma quanto mi è piaciuto? Tantissimo.
Certo, mi ha anche fatto saltare tantissimo i nervi verso la fine, ma ci sta. I libri che trasmettono emozioni forti sono i migliori!

Super fun, quick little read. 3.5 stars rounded down because the characters did a lot of inexplicable things without enough exploration, but it was zippy and fun and full of astronauts.

This book was SO good! I loved the strong heroine and NASA aspect - it made this story one you definitely don't want to put down. Who can resist a cowboy mechanic and his smart astronaut love. Such a great couple!

I loved Jackie. There are so many books with the distracted smart girl who bumps into shit and everyone calls her scatter brained. This author shows you Jackie’s quirks.
Flynn was great. Not his use of “yo” was irritating but otherwise he’s great.
I loved all the mechanic stuff.

Loved this book! Found it on a list of great reads and enjoyed it so much. I love how Flynn never once thought a highly educated, genius woman was daunting or nerdy.

The name is sad, but the main character is smart and relatable. Enjoyed this book. Quick read but worth it.
