I was really in the mood for a good ya fantasy that could make me feel like I was 14 again and this did the trick. in fact, it's wayyy better than I expected. I genuinely enjoyed the writing and how everything was handled. the last 25% of the book was SO GOOD HOLY HELL. I love the way the author describes a character going through trauma and grief using little details that really made me feel like I'm experiencing the grief through them than generic descriptions.
I'll say that the twist (for lack of better words and spoilers) really made things kinda confusing and just overall affected my enjoyment a bit. it felt so predictable but I was just bamboozled ajdhsjk (still not over it). however I went back and re-read some of the chapters and what do you know? it all makes sense now 😠tbh I hate the fact that I might've missed out on the true experience of the story but I might actually re-read it from the start one day. I had a lot of fun reading it.

1. Of the very distinct parts of this book, I most enjoyed the tavern life in the seaside town. it was very Disney though, now that I think about it.
2. I mixed up the assassin and the Prince for most of the book and did not realize it until the third part of the book. I have never made such a grievous error, and I'm scared I am losing my damn mind.
3. I will most certainly read the sequels. Maybe with my Snail Mail Book Club friend:)
4. The title is lost on me.

This was so fun! Loved the world building and the history of the Ancients and the gods. Slow paced but I liked spending time in this world with these characters so I didn't mind but hopefully the rest of the series has some more plot.
