God, this book was not it. It starts off characterizing the MC as a TOTAL nerd, and that's fine because that's exactly how I was in high school too. What bothered me is that the story lacked any real conflict and I felt like I read a 10k fic on Tumblr instead of an actual published novel.

However, as a CS major myself, I appreciated the realistic depiction of coding instead of what some writers do, which is make up a bunch of weird technical terms for no reason instead of real research.

The first love interest had no intriguing hook and the chemistry was lacking. That even goes for the second love interest.

Overall, this book was not good but not bad enough to warrant a 1 star review.

well..this was mind numbing.
i started it only because i saw someone say it had a lot of taylor swift references? which it did! 30 total, not counting any of the album/song name-drops. and every mention had me so excited (it really is as simple as an author mentioning taylor swift on page and im ready to love the book forever). that said, the plot itself has literally nothing going on for it, the main character was tiring if not straight up berserk, the love interest(s) were shallow and not fleshed out at all. reading this felt like watching 5 stick figures jumping around on page.
so: 1 star off because the mc left a taylor swift concert before it ended??? 1 more star off for saying a party popper was better than a taylor swift finale??? another star (and a half) off because the romance really had me going

The New York City streets were crowded, but if you were used to the hustle and bustle then you could thrive in this type of environment. She’d grown up here, experienced so much in her few years of life, and this city was the launching point for where she wanted to take her life. If only she could figure out how to get through high school first.

My Epic Spring Break (Up) follows Ashley, an aspiring coder and a high school student passionate about STEM and girls/women getting involved in the craft. But she’s still only in high school and high school drama can get in the way of her goals.

I wanted to enjoy this book, but it ultimately fell very flat. There wasn’t anything remarkably memorable about the story and the love triangle drama really took away from some themes in the book that could be really powerful and inspiring for young girls looking to get into STEM. This just wasn’t a good fit for me.

If you love YA, love triangles, and an abundance of high school drama… then you may enjoy this one.

Ashley Bergen has one thing, and one thing only on her mind: the future. Between her immaculate vision board, her stellar SAT scores, her math/coding/tutoring extracurriculars, and her top notch grades, Ashley’s acceptance to the summer internship of her dreams should be a no-brainer. Also a no-brainer is Ashley’s non-existent love life. Or social life. Or any life beyond getting out of Brooklyn and into Silicon Valley.

However, you can’t force life to go your way, and when Ashley finds all her plans burnt to smithereens, her childhood best friend and rising social media prankster, Jason, challenges her to let go and let loose because they only get to experience high school once.

Rattled by rejection, Ashley decides to make a change. She’s saying yes instead of no (TS reference is a yes here because Ashley is a huge Swiftie!).

Enter Walker Beech, the beautiful, charismatic, mysterious boy from Ashley’s history class that Ashley has been secretly crushing on for more than a year. When fate throws Ashley a chance, she decides to jump then fall into Walker. Then all hell breaks loose.
For context: Walker is high key “The Way I Loved You” and “I Knew You Were Trouble” vibes and...
Jason is “You Belong With Me” and “Lover” vibes.

Needless to say, Ashley has some breaking up and coming undone to go through, and maybe even a rollercoaster kind of rush or two before it’s all said and done.

Thank you to NetGalley for the eARC of this title! This was an astonishingly quick read, even for a YA contemporary. A cute YA romance without much depth, beyond the character growth of seeing Ashley learn to move on from rejection (both in job prospects and romantic relationships) and make room for better things to come. I liked the boy she ended up with, although they got about 5 pages together as a couple before the book was over. I also enjoyed the focus on Ashley's interest in coding and the hackathon itself was realistic, even if the prizes weren't. Not a standout book, but it fits the definition of short and sweet!

this was such a short and easy read , i read it in one sitting , i adored the two main characters , i was a bit annoyed as she was really like trusting towards her crush and some parts didn't really add up , BC MS GIRL GOT A WHOLE ASS TATTOO and she only got grounded ??? girl my mom would have taken away my rights to everything and anything and most probably disown me.

anyways , the TAYLOR SWIFT REFERENCES. if you know me , im a whole sucker for books when there's a taylor reference , and also jason is a real one for liking taylor swift and HE IS OBSESSED WITH HER. willing to listen to her talk about taylor swift for hours and also frustrated love confessions >>>>> , i nearly died when he just blurted out his love , BWEWEBEIRU
