I’m a bit disappointed in The Witch’s Pet. I read raving reviews on reddit, and it didn’t live up to my expectations.

I did enjoy it - the world building is interesting and the magic system is really original. Sitri is an interesting character, but Pandora often felt like an immature teenager who did things out of spite and out of stubbornness. She infuriated me at times. I understand she has a lot of religious trauma and has been severely abused in the past, but she doesn’t even TRY to grow as a person despite being given all the tools to do so. Instead of communicating with Sitri, she shuts him out and pouts like a kid. She kept this up all the way until the last chapter of the book. It was very frustrating.

This book would have also benefitted A LOT from more editing. There were several typos, em dashes and quotation marks that weren’t properly formatted, etc. A lot of the dialogue was confusing because one character’s line would end and another’s would begin on the same line, without a paragraph break in between. So often I couldn’t even tell who was saying what. I also felt there was some content that could have been reworked (or even outright removed from the book) that would have improved the overall reading experience. Pandora rambled over and over about the exact same thing in different chapters, to the point where I started skimming her rants instead of actually paying attention to them.

I’ll still read the sequel, as I enjoyed the story overall and I want to know what happens to the characters. But the book did read a lot like chapters from a fanfiction that were put together, printed, and then put up for sale. I hope the next instalment is edited better, so that the technical parts of the author’s writing can match the unique and wonderful world she’s built!

I really enjoyed the beginning and flew through the first half of the book. It was so fun, I enjoyed their dynamic and bickering, and I was hooked. However, the second half is where things took a slightly annoying turn.
Miscommunication is a constant feature in this book and while I detest it, it wasn’t too bad in the beginning. At some point, our main characters seem to reach a turning point in this regard but communication continues to be an issue. It just feels frustrating at the end. It’s not entirely unfounded but I do wish it had been handled differently.
I personally did not mind that
most of the book takes places in the setting of the chambers. I think the fact that the main characters spend so much time together is so good

Overall, I did really enjoy it. It’s only the last two thirds-ish of the book that have me torn. I am definitely going to continue this series though

I don't know if "love" is strong enough of a word to describe my feelings when it comes to Kerri Andrews' Witch's Pet. This book has grabbed me, taken hold of my heart and soul, and decided not to let me go. And I don't mind it at all.

I can't begin to decipher what I found more beautiful—the writing style, the way these characters were crafted, or the sheer amount of emotions oozing from each page. Everything was perfectly blended together, forming a tapestry of hurt, pain, betrayal, sorrow, along with the wittiest of banters and seeds of burning desire and, dare I say, love.

Sitri and Pandora may seem worlds apart, and in a way, they are, being born and bred in different societal norms and cultures. They are both apprehensive of each other, and this forced union, but at the same time, I can see why these two were more similar than they ever thought possible.

They are both struggling with their inner demons (pun intended) and difficult pasts while trying to navigate the present and a possible future. Would there be one? We are yet to see, and I am dying to know where Kerri will take us next.

I was honoured to be one of Kerri's ARC readers and to be given the chance to experience this witty, whimsical, dark, and intriguing story of two people and two worlds colliding. Allow yourself the time and open your heart to Pandora and Sitri; you will become as obsessed as I am.

Sitri is such a great MMC and he deserves cuddles. 5/5, can't wait until he gets into Pandora's box.
