I have loved each of the books in this series- until now. I just did not connect with Fox and Bull. Instalove but lacking chemistry. Story was pretty predictable. The part where God and his gang show up was just ridiculous. Felt like the Keystone Cops. I’m wondering if it’s time to draw series to an end. It was a big disappointment considering all the hype.

I have been fortunate enough to receive review copies of each title in AE Via's Nothing Special Series. Each one has been fantastic and has a review posted. The premise of book 8 is built around Fox, Ivan Hart's 2nd in command, and all-around badass. Fox, whose real name is Mandel Tucker, is burnt out. He works too much to cover his own feelings of living someone else's life. When he is suddenly suspended for only doing his job, he is fed up.

When trouble arises again at the Walker Ranch, Fox volunteers to go help Mr. Walker and his son, Big Bull. Bull has trust issues. He is not happy about Fox being underfoot 24/7. As Bull and Fox circle each other while trying to solve who is sabotaging the ranch, they fail to see the storm until it arrives. When God's voice is heard, Fox has to decide whether to heed his duty or his hope for a new life.

The audiobook was fantastic. Aiden Snow narrates the book. He gives Fox's voice all the command and slyness that his character is known for. He also gives him an unexpected sense of vulnerability. Bull's voice while reflecting his physic also shows his gentleness by being a softer voice. I did not have to change volume settings at all so softer may be the wrong adjective for Bull's voice. The side characters are all well narrated. When the situation becomes dangerous, then as in all Nothing Special titles, the voice of God is heard.

I devoured it.
It's entertaining, sexy, sweet and very much like the whole series.
By now you know what to expect from these books and they do not disappoint.
I loved the setting of the farm and that close-knit family feel of the whole story.

If you’ve loved the previous books in this series, you’ll love this one. As always, there are a few times you’ll have to suspend reality or ignore some inconsistencies, but I categorize this series as pure entertainment only.

Fox and Bull just work. They have entertaining banter and major sexual chemistry. I loved it when Fox called Bull by his real name when they were intimate.

God was uncharacteristically a huge jerk, and I did not like him in this story. He’s very Jekyll and Hyde in this series for some reason.

I need to go back and read Sparks Will Fly (which was a freebie from somewhere) because those two characters show up in this book and there is a teaser about their story.

Fox and Bull were hot as hell.. but the real star of the show was Dale and God cause I'm mean this is God we are talking about.

DNF. Couldn't get past the illogical plot. First, Fox wasn't gay in the previous books. Second, Dale was the ranch manager/foreman. Normally, he would have been vetted and brought into the security situation. His ignorance and justifiable suspicion created conflict in the wrong place. And as for the relationship, Bull was needy, Fox was standoff-ish, and both of them never communicated.

I really, really enjoyed this story of two wounded men who need healing...and a wounded horse in the same boat, and how all they help each other to find what they need.

The relationship between Fox and Bull is a mature one and that’s nice to see. The relationship between Fox and Diablo is beautiful and a great metaphor.

God comes off as a total A-hole in this book so I hope people have read the earlier books to get a fuller picture of him. And once again I’m totally enamored with Free. The crisis scene at the end had me holding my breath and once again a great segue was provided to the next book in the series.

But once again editing is an issue. And it’s a lack of editing that takes my head out of the book which is a cardinal sin. As an example, at one point in the book Fox graduated from Annapolis and at another from West Point. HUGE difference. At one point his father and grandfather were SWAT, in another his father was a general. At one point his father the general had to pull strings to get him into West Point, at another he was a brilliant, genius. How does no one catch these inconsistencies when they are editing the book? There are quite a few proofreading and formatting errors as well. Anything that takes me head out of a story automatically downgrades the rating.

Mandel "Fox" Tucker is a SWAT Officer who ends up on leave after a negative article in the paper saying he's too quick to violence.  He is very frustrated as he was following orders and no one was injured.  He is quick to jump to help Dominic "Bull" Walker who owns a ranch outside Atlanta.  They met in the last book and there was some major attraction.  However, Bull is skeptical because he doesn't believe that Fox would be happy on the ranch.  Fox works hard to advance his relationship with Bull and to solve the problem of who is vandalizing the ranch.  The resolution to both is very satisfying.

This was in itself not a bad book at all. It's just all reader-expectation thing. I was expecting a police drama and not a ranch love story, even if it was a very well done ranch love story. Also, when I first read about Fox in Book 6, I was intrigued by his past and was sure we would get a deeper look at it when he got his own book, but it's the gun-that-wasn't-really-fired thing. But the ending seems to promise an action-packed follow-up... which I am eagerly waiting for!
