Tuck Everlasting is written in such a gentle, thoughtful way that I had to slow down and really savor it. Not because it was heavy or hard to get through, but because the pace and tone made me want to just… take my time.

This book pulled me back to those quiet, simple days when I’d read on a porch swing or under a tree, totally lost in a story. There’s something so nostalgic about this book. It made me feel like a kid again, in the best way.

And of course, I had to rewatch the movie afterward, which I hadn’t seen in nearly 20 years. Just as lovely and bittersweet as I remembered.

If you’ve been craving something soft, meaningful, and a little bit magical, give this one a go.

Read-aloud for Upper El, so I was particularly attuned to Babbitt's way of describing people, especially the man in the yellow suit--she does not write one direct criticism as she introduces him, but nonetheless, he seems a little menacing. And so on throughout the book. The kids were of course spellbound.

I didn't read this as a kid, so none of the nostalgia was there, but I still found it enchanting. I have seen the movie, though, and totally would have thought Winnie was older than 9 years old... I feel like it would have been a little better if she were. The story is still full of wonder, and I did fall for Winnie and the Tucks. I can see how this became a middle-grade classic; the writing would have sucked me in as a young reader. It did a pretty good job of that now. I'm not sure I love the ending, but I appreciate this for its take on love, loneliness, and living fully with the time you have.

I thought Jesse and Winnie's relationship was creepy and ruined it for me.

Short child aged story. Tugs at your heartstrings conceptually but as an adult found the story altogether a bit strange, especially regarding the child being the love interest of a very very old man. Nope.
