I loved the different characters in this story and was broken hearted to see all they went through.

This is a pretty decent book, but it moves very very slow. I got to about the halfway point before there was any mention of code or the machine being introduced.

A WWII air base in Scotland is the setting for a story of spies, codebreakers, daring night flights, and friendships. We have Louise, a West Indian/English girl who's a companion to Jane Werner, a shrewd and courageous German lady of some age who is staying mum about her origins; Ellen, a volunteer driver for the RAF who's keeping her Traveller identity under wraps; and a German pilot who may or may not be on the side of the Allies. And, of course, Jamie Beaufort-Stuart and his sister Queenie/Elisabeth Lind/Julie/Verity, whom I was heartstruck to see again. A delight to be back among old friends.

i loved this one, even if I am reading the stories slightly out of order. I usually can’t do a war story, but knowing what happens to the protagonists (ie is alive in the end) makes it mostly okay. I loved the setting; the fact that I knew some of the characters already from The Pearl Thief, and maybe my rating is a little high (4.5* actually) but I bumped it up because I am camping and in a good mood.
