So apparently I skipped a book or two because I feel like I was missing a lot of context. Normally that wouldn’t be such an issue but it’s so far into the series that the overarching plot needs you to read them in order to keep up. Even still I enjoyed the book. Disregarding the missing info (because that’s my fault, not the authors) I gave this book 4 stars. I really enjoyed the plot but the romance focus of this book wasn’t my favorite. Honestly I was most interested in Raven and Lassiter and they get almost no screen time. I’m going to be genuinely upset if they don’t get the next book. Like for real. I do plan to do some digging to see just how many books I’m behind on, and try to fill in some gaps. Ward is an auto buy author for me but moneys been tight lately so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised I’ve missed a few.

At this point, I'm reading the books because I want to be able to finish a series. I'm committed now with no way of quitting.

I have no idea who these people are. And I think Ward could write the most interesting plot in the next few books and it wouldn't matter because it stopped being interesting as soon as she finished writing the stories of the core group.

I like Lassiter; I will always like him.

Spoiler But reviving the Omega plot point is a dead horse. Stop making it happen, Gretch.

While I didn't hate it, it just really didn't work for me. Our main couple only got together thru the sacrifice of others. And there were things that seemed to happen off page that never really got explained. I did not like that Lash was brought back. We get his POV part way thru the book, but then not at the end when it maybe would have mattered? And I haven't been a fan of devina ever, in the angel series or in this one. So having her get what she wanted after doing so much damage? Nope.

I liked our two MC's and getting to see the little bit of the brother's that we did. It just wasn't enough to make it work for me. I also felt like I needed to have done a re read of the prior book quite often during this. That could have just been a "reading during covidtimes" issue for me. I'm still formulating my thoughts on it, but i just had to vent a little.

Balthazar is not in a good place. He's isolated himself from everyone, and is desperate to stay awake. Erika is struggling with gaps in her memory, and is unable to shake her feelings for the man in the video. Her history is absolutely devastating, which definitely affects how she interacts with other people.

V can't shake the feeling there's something going on, and tracks down Lassiter for confirmation of his gut feeling. Lassiter is really stuck between a rock and a hard place. He's struggling with the rules of engagement, and has to take a step back from helping ... which isn't going very well.

Raven is struggling to find a place in this new world she finds herself in, and Nate is beyond smitten with her. I'm a little gob-smacked at the direction this story line took ...

Davina is on the hunt for her true love, and finally the BOOK decides to help her. The requirements for the spell affects more characters than you'd expect. It also brings the arrival of a former foe of the BDB.

Man ... There's a lot going on in this book, but it's definitely a "set up" book for Lassiter's book ... which I cannot wait for!!
