Fun to read. I think this one is far superior to the earlier books...the plot holds together better, there is less racist language (and yes, I realize that it is a sign of the times, but it is still uncomfortable to read), and the ending resolves very nicely.

I just finished this Librovox audiobook version of the Hound of the Baskervilles.

The story was pretty good, this narrator was pretty terrible. I'm thinking that Sherlock Holmes stories might be kind of overrated. The ones that I've read are all decent, but I haven't found one yet that has blown me away.

My opinion of the Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Homes mysteries is approximately the same as the Agatha Christie mysteries that I've read. Both authors provide entertaining mysteries that a reader can quickly get into and temporarily escape into, but beyond that, they aren't great literature.

I plan to read the entire Sherlock Holmes collection of stories soon, and may update this rating and review at some point.

I thought I had read all the Sherlock Holmes stories, but apparently not. Maybe this one wasn't in my childhood library. At any rate, a satisfying and nostalgic read.

Third of the four Sherlock novels from Doyle, and it’s definitely my favorite yet which is why I had to elevate to five stars (is it perfect? No. But it’s clear Doyle has hit his stride with Holmes and Watson and that deserves a star bump!)

I’m thinking about why this one stands out, I found myself extra compelled by things like the fact that they’re questioning whether the case involves super natural (really highlighting the Scooby Doo nature of the case— which I mean as a high compliment!), the more gothic and morose tone that grips you and paints quite the mental images, the series of the middle that is really only through Watson’s perspectives and experiences, and the classic story elements of romance, betrayal, deception, and having it all come crashing down.

I immediately sense that this will be a fun one to re-read, and I suppose that stands alone as high praise!

Once again, this all leaves me even more excited to keep going with the Sherlock Holmes dive!

A more involved case with twists and turns and one of my favorite works by this author. Plenty of surprises throughout the read and very entertaining.

This is usually the go to book for Sherlock Holmes fans as either a favourite or a good place to start if your picking them up for the first time. I don't think that should be the case, while I enjoyed it and its got a lot of exciting parts to it there's not enough Holmes! For the majority of the book he's not in it and while I like John and 99% of the stories are told from his point of view it's his friend we read them for. I mean Watson says it himself in study in scarlet, he becomes obsessed with Holmes. I actually put this one down and made to start more of the short stories but pick it up again to persevere and when Holmes reappears that's when it leads to any amazing and tense finale. Also it was nice to see Lestrade at the end.
