I hate everything this author stands for and now I must hunt down the sequel. How dare he leave this book on such a cliffhanger.
It really is a fantastic book, and I'm glad I decided that being an adult shouldn't mean not getting to read his books anymore.

A great dystopian YA that feels fresh while recalling Westerfeld's earlier dystopian series "Uglies". While you don't have to have read the "Uglies" series, the nods to it in "Imposters" are that much more enjoyable when you have.
WrensReads Review:
HERE IT IS I AM SO HAPPY I CAN'T AHHHH MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE EVER!
Also, I will say when I saw the trailer I thought it was becoming a movie franchise or something... BUT THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER. SO MANY STORIES TO BE TOLD IN THIS WORLD I AM SO BEYOND EXCITED!

An intriguing dystopian concept, but ultimately the story devolved into the same dystopian tropes we've read a hundred times.
The main character is Fray, twin sister to "first daughter" Rafia, international celebrity. Only, no one knows that Rafia has a twin. Before the twins were born, their brother was kidnapped and never seen again for political reasons. Their father hates to lose and hates to be vulnerable... so as his wife lay dying, he harvested her eggs and engineered identical twin daughters. One, he raised to actually be his daughter. The other, he raised to be her body double, to take a bullet in her twin's place if necessary. Fray was raised to kill from the time of seven, and to have no identity of her own. She's carted out in public venues where Rafi would be at risk, and otherwise hidden in the shadows.
But when Fray is sent to a neighboring city, ostensibly to court their first son Cole (who thinks she's her bubble-headed sister and hates her at first), her father initiates a military strike that sends her and Cole on the run to join the rebels. From this point, the story follows the usual pattern, more or less. Fray's predicament is unusual initially, but once the war starts, it's just a question of whose family is still alive or on the run, how they fight, how they survive, and oh, by the way, they're also teenagers falling in love with each other too.
The story ends at a cliffhanger, but I'm not intrigued enough by the characters or the plot to keep reading.

Not a bad new series based on the Uglies series. A little trite but probably appealing to the middle school crowd. Will probably read the sequel. The kid liked it ok. Kind of needed to have read the Uglies series to get all the references so not a really great stand alone.
Really love the Uglies series, but this has to be my favorite book Scott Westerfeld has written in this fantasy world. It really surprises me to say that, but it's true.
Glad I re-read the entire series before getting into Imposters, but Imposters can also be a standalone series if picked up somewhere without having read the prior novels.
Enjoyed the new area of the world, the new characters, the new problems that society is facing in the aftermath of the first four books. Enjoyed the commentary on society as a whole through the view of this fantasy world.
Well-written, as always. Easy to read and just all around enjoyable.
Now I just need November to get here so I can start Shatter City with my book club. Until then, I'll be twiddling my thumbs wondering about Frey, Rafia, Col and so many more excellent characters!

I've grown tired of the teen romance aspect of these kinds of books, but Westerfeld really is a master storyteller. I was gripped from the first chapter and was holding on by my fingertips the entire way through the novel. Can't wait to read the next one.
I wish it was a separate story in the same universe. They kept referencing Tally (main character in Uglies series), and I felt it was unnecessary. Cool story.
Such a fast exciting read! Excited for the sequel and to see where the story goes. 4 stars for the predictability but still highly enjoyable
