The book did an interesting job showing when one’s thoughts might not be one’s own and the sickness of the land was felt in the narration.

I think I liked this novel more than Tombs of Atuan, but again the ending feels almost anticlimactic. Maybe I've just been spoiled for fantasy that is not about action by writers like Jim Butcher and Seanan McGuire. Le Guin writes metaphors more than stories; everything has a meaning. It makes the stories progress more like philosophical arguments at times, which certainly does not diminish my appreciation, but it certainly forces me to read slowly, and with less enthusiasm than I tend to approach most fantasy/SF.

I continued to read this book right after reading the previous 2 of the saga, so I was already accustomed to the world and writing style. I did like the introduction of a new character (again), although I did not find Arren too likeable. Something about his motivation throughout the book - and love - just didn't really resolve for me. I struggled more to read this book than the previous one. Something about the seafaring and details of insignificant places - yet again. I guess, it still tied in well with the overall saga and the end leaves me wondering where the next book will take us.

Screaming crying throwing up I want to only read Earthsea forever

2.5 stars. Just didn't enjoy this one anywhere near as much as the Tombs of Atuan.

Continuation of the wizard turned archmage adventures seeking to save the world from an evil wizard who has made people and dragons forget the meaning of living.
slow-paced

This book finally rewarded my extreme patience with this author. There were some speeches that I absolutely loved, and some sections that were quite delightful. The reflection Arren gives in the beginning of “The Madman” chapter was a particular favorite - of wizard nonsense and general humbug feelings.
