One of the best fantasy novels I read in a long time. Narrator did his best to make it feel like a fairy tale. Story was a bit slow in the beginning, but it payed off. I was invested in most of the characters. Can’t wait to listen to the second part.
"A book that has changed my way of reading fantasy"
SPOILER FREE
I must admit I simply bought this book due to the sheer cover, I had no idea what the book was about I didn't even read the blurb but, oh my was I not dissapointed. This is the first book ive read by Laini Taylor and by the first page I was instantly hooked. Its so poetically written I couldn't take my eyes off the page. I binge read this book all day and didn't stop to eat, I was so insanely immersed in the world and Instantly hooked by the characters and their stories. Its brimmed full of Fantasy and Romance and Laini Taylor's writing is the best ive ever read. I didn't juat read a book I read her soul, her life, her love it all went into this book. This unique book has changed my way of reading fantasy, and so far no other book has compared.
I'm looking forward to the next one she writes.

Such a unique and magical story with rich and immersive writing and captivating characters!
So, how do I review one of the most beautiful books I have read in a long time? I had the biggest book hangover and it took me a full day to be open to a new book again.
This book reminded me of reading exotic fairy tales when I was a child. I was drawn into this world so completely, it felt like going away for a while.
The writing is so beautiful I had to stop reading sometimes to process it and there are so many quote worthy lines. I loved the transformation of Lazlo as a character, how he finds his own worth even before he discovers his true power. Sarai struggles with her loyalty and doing what's right in a way that is believable and beautiful and through that, she encounters most of the difficulties that we would have to face in real life when we try to do the same.
The love story was just so sweet. Young adult often features a first love, but setting it in a dream world and taking two characters who are so innocent and inexperienced makes it a discovery all over again.
I am enchanted by this book and I'm so happy I aready have Muse of Nightmares in my tbr pile because I can't wait to start it.

Romance 10/10
Creative world-building 10/10

The beginning was a bit slow but totally worth it. The world of Lazlo Strange is a place where fantastical dreams and haunting mysteries come together to create their own unique reality. And the romance is so well done I can’t even.

This is probably one of the most beautifully written books I have ever read. I can imagine other people might find the writing style a bit too much, but it felt like every other page I was highlighting something that struck a chord or stood out to me (RIP my annotation tabs lol).
It's also absolutely heartbreaking. I felt the entire time that something awful would happen, and it's foreshadowed REALLY early on (at least in the ARC copy I managed to snag from a Little Free Library). I was in tears at multiple points.
Absolutely a new fav and I'm picking up the next one ASAP cause I know I will want to highlight the shit out of it and I'm sure my library would not appreciate that lol.

Recommended by my student intern. I thought this take on fantasy was really fresh. The world building was really interesting and vivid, it was between medieval fantasy fiction. My biggest qualm was with how much of the book was spent just simply exploring 2-3 days worth of a love-at-first-sight, enraptured romance experience. It wasn’t believable that the two characters could fall in love so quickly with having so little time pass and so little discussed between the two of them.
My version of this book ended with e TDC note, which was disappointing, but I think I would read the second book of this series eventually to answer some questions. Almost seems like a waste to not just continue the book, build out the characters now, and not disrupt your readers’ attention. But what do I know about being a novelist?
