At one point, I purchased this entire set used at Half Price Books. I like to binge-read series, reading them one after the other so I can fully appreciate the world while my brain is already used to the world set up in the previous book. Among the Hidden leaves us with Luke getting a temporary ID card so he can enter the world as Lee Grant. He is sent off to a windowless boarding school where guards patrol the hallways, commons spaces, and even the bathrooms. Luke is never alone and he so desperately wants to so he can read the note Mr. Talbot slipped him. When Luke discovers an unlocked door to the outside world, he begins to discover there's more to the other students than what he originally thought.

This was a great sequel to [b:Among the Hidden|227651|Among the Hidden (Shadow Children, #1)|Margaret Peterson Haddix|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1388382796l/227651._SX50_.jpg|1210896]. I really enjoyed getting to follow Luke's journey from the first book to his new adventure at Hendricks School for Boys. It was hard to read about how his fellow classmates treated him, but in the end, I was so proud of Luke for standing up for what he believed in and what he knew was right.

This book definitely needs to be read after Among the Hidden. Having read several in the series, it's important to read them in order as the characters grow and gain knowledge about life with the Population Police.

TW: bullying/hazing

Luke is now at Hendrick's school and he does NOT fit in. The other boys tease him and are mean to him. That is, until he discovers maybe some of them aren't so different from his after all.

My journey down this series from my childhood continues! Book 2 was good, character growth was solid and the plot is interesting!

These books are okay. Giving it a four mostly for the world and ideas.

Luke is hidding from the dreaded Population Police. He’s a third child and the family limit is two so if he’s found he’s a gonner. Hidding in a boys school after home schooling only adds fright to an already scarey experience. Then there are the other boys. The only on who pays attention to Luke, is a boy he calls the jackal boy and the attention is all taunting and bullying. Scared and alone Luke seeks comfort in the outdoors when he can sneek out, but even there danger lurks behind every tree.

A good second book. I'll keep reading.

Not as well-written as the first one, but exciting. I think Haddix could have put some more detail into making everything convincing.

not much to this one. such little character development, story line movement, or detailing. basically a filter to get to book three.
