A slow burner in the beginning, but a banging ending.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, boom- you haven't! And that is the beauty of MHC books. These gotcha endings never get old.

Another winner by Mary Higgins Clark. Very fast paced and engaging with some interesting characters. An easy relaxing read.

This was a snore of a book! The idea of the story was good but omg, the writing. So much useless information, so much blah blah blah! I just wanted to yell at the book to get on with it!! The last few chapters I just skimmed the pages so I could find out who the kidnapper really was and be done with it!!!

This was certainly very thrilling and heart pounding.

But I still don't understand the motive behind it all. It's too.....illogical. And I mean, I guess it was a psychopathic personality to do what the character did. But still....the reasoning is highly flawed. It made the conclusion kinda fall flat.

I really enjoyed this book. My girls and I listened to it in one setting during a long car trip. It's been a while since I've read anything by her, but I will be reading more. I kept going back and forth on who I thought did it, only to be surprised at the ending. Excellent book!

I can't imagine anything worse than finding out that someone has taken your child. To search for him for years, never giving up hope, only to finally be accused of taking him yourself. Wow - how much can one woman endure? Higgins Clark created a strong charactter in Zan, one who is able to survive this. Naturally however there are consequences. Black-outs, relationship failures, and self-doubts. Someone has worked hard to set up Zan for this crime. They have everyone believing it, including Zan herself. She know she could never harm her own child, and yet...
While several times throughout the story I thought I had guessed the true mastermind behind the crime, something would lead me in another direction. I nibbled around te edges, but coudld never truly decide on, or prove my theory. I like that in a mystery, which is why I keep coming back to Mary Higgins Clark and her lottery winning detective Alvirah!
