I must say, I expected more from Hans Anderson. This story felt all over the place and was hard to follow, especially for the kids. Not well written at all.
Fun little book. Like all fairy tales, it doesn't quite make sense. But there were some nice examples of friendship, endurance, distraction, truth, good, evil etc.

quaint tale , fabulous narration. The movie Frozen and the Snow Queen storyline are loosely based on this. The Robber Girl is my favorite.
12/15/18 Reread because it's short and it will help me reach my Goodreads total. I can't believe I'm read it 4 years later to the day! :)

The illustrations in this book are beautiful, but I was less pleased with the story. The pages are text-heavy for a picture book. Even so, the story felt very rushed and as though things had been left out for the sake of time. For example, all of these people and animals were helping the little girl, and one woman seemed to hint that there was something special about her that caused this, yet it was never elaborated on or explained. This is one version of Hans Christian Anderen's story, so it is possible that the problem is one of translation, but I wasn't thrilled with it overall.
The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen is a free NetGalley ebook that I read in late September.
Fairly scattered and a little dark with its themes of kidnapping/lost children, The Snow Queen is a lot like Little Red Riding Hood (child on an errand outside, grandmother figure) and somewhat like Frozen (siblings who are separated between 'normality' and polar magic powers, anonymous Nordic setting). The absolutely gorgeous illustrations save its faltering storyline many times with its Swedish, almost batik-like style.

It a beautiful take on the Snow Queen fairytale and reminder that movie is VERY different from actual fairy tale...it's longer + more text! The illustrations does feel timeless and beautiful!
I can kind of see how the frozen franchise was created from this. My little one loved this :)
