Insightful, detailed and insanely well researched biography about the father of the atomic bomb. However, I would’ve wished a bit more focus or background information on the actual sciences and scientific process behind the making of the A-bomb when Oppenheimer lead the project in Los Alamos. These chapters seemed a bit chaotic. It’s not completely clear to me what exactly Oppenheimer’s scientific contributions were in addition to being the head of many brilliant scientists working on the project. Otherwise there are hardly any complaints. Looking forward to the Nolan movie which is gonna be based on this biography.

Don’t let the huge page count fool you- I found this easy and compelling to read, especially for biography. A detailed and emotional portrait of a complicated man. Equally insightful as the excellent film.

Enjoyable for a biography. Extremely well researched and worthy of the Pulitzer it won, but left me wanting a little more information on the atomic bombs dropped on Japan. I suppose in that way, I was much like Oppenheimer who was kept in the dark about the details of the bombings, and that may have been the author's goals in writing this book. Glad I powered through this before seeing Christopher Nolan's movie.

Amazing how the people that give so much to this country end up having the country turn its back on them. Oppenheimer was a very interesting person and while I now realize biographies are definitely not my genre of choice, this was certainly worth a read.
