Weird
This short story was told in a detached, lackluster way. I'm not sure if that was the author's intent or not. It left a lot of questions at the end and I'm not quite sure what was going on. Regardless, it could be an interesting story if there was more detail.
I received this as a giveaway but my opinions are my own.

Umm what?!
Just as I started getting into and wrapping my mind around it... just bam it was over and the curtain fell, and the entire stage collapsed.
I must be dumb because i didn't fully understand the ending and still can't follow just exactly wtf happened there.
I love Jodi Picoult. I love that she doesn't have to give everyone happy endings. But, wtf did I just read?

I picked this book because I love Picoult, and I love mermaids. I was listening to the audiobook, and didn't see that it was only 40 pages. When it said "We hope you enjoyed our reading of..." I was like what the crap? ! What kind of ending is that?! This book isn't what I was expecting from Picoult at all. The only reason the book is called mermaid is because the character , Hope, used to be one of those actors who swim underwater in a mermaid tail.
Just as I was like ok this might not be so bad if ended. Her husband and her have a pool in their backyard they turned into a breeding aquarium for fish. For some reason the fish disappear, and then the fake coral reef. All of a sudden Hope is hearing the pool? It's telling her to feed it sweets, then vegtables, milk, chicken noodle soup, etc.. It draws so much attention that a news crew comes, priests, nuns, disabled people, etc.. All wanting to witness this miracle of a pool that devours anything you throw in.
Never finding out why the pool is like that her husband says F this, drains the pool and fills it in with dirt. He's happy with himself and the book ends... Ooook

I got this one as I have enjoyed the previous Jodi Picoult books I've read. This time though I didn't enjoy it at all, the moving pictures on my kindle were lovely but the story itself was terrible. Yes I get that Hope had lost a baby and was struggling to come to terms with it but the pool eating stuff and being weird had no bearing on the story and made no sense at all.
Cute short story
This was a cute short story but it ended a little weird for me. Maybe if it was longer I might have liked it better.

Different
Not what I expected for Jodi Picoult. I liked the motion aspects of this Kindle in Motion book quick read.

For a story about child loss, this could have been made into a much longer and better story. The entire Kindle In Motion experience was not necessary. It didn’t add to the experience at all.
The pace of the story is confusing. It’s not enough depth (forgive the pun) to truly feel anything for the MC.
Readers who believe the husband is a jerk or a terrible person, clearly didn’t understand the story, which I think is the fault of the story format.
This had so much potential. I was intrigued, but the plot fell short and just aggravated me. I didn’t expect a happy ending, considering JP’s reputation with her usual work, however it was lacking.
For anyone who doesn’t understand the plot, Hope becomes pregnant and loses the child at some point within the back and forth of her inner monologue. Eventually you find out (assuming she suffered from PPD), she receive treatment at a mental hospital.
After being released, her husband didn’t want to enable her “insanity” anymore when it came to the pool in their yard being hungry and literally needing to feed.
Eventually she tries to commit suicide and is taken to the hospital again.
This could have been done in a much better way and I’m annoyed I had to figure this all out from flashbacks and flashfowards every paragraph.
I wouldn’t recommend.
