Okay story. Preachy ending.

I wish I'd liked this more because the overall concept of the escape rooms could be amazing.
I found myself underwhelmed with the characters throughout. Lots of arguing, not a logical approach, which doesn't make sense since they'd all signed up for an escape room experience.
The ending felt remarkably preachy for a book aimed at readers who are probably very aware of the climate change issue but who, being so young, are mostly without deciding making powers.
That being said, I'm not 10 so I'm not who the book is aimed. I'll put it in my class library and have no doubt that it'll fly from one pupil to another once word gets out.

Update.
The book has now been read by 5 children in my class. 2 absolutely loved it and the other 3 said it was OK and all would recommend it to friends.

This book had a great start and instantly pulls the reader in. You are intrigued by all the players and want to know more and what you learn keeps you guessing. The escape challenges are thrilling and encompasses a lot of topics kids are interested in or could spark an interest in. The ending was a bit of a twist that I am not sure I like completely on term of entertainment, but I love the message for kids.

You have GOT to read the whole book - don't skip to the end, or quit halfway, because the masterful part of this story is the end.

Surprising

I don’t often rate children’s books so this is hard. It can be slow at times but I did enjoy the twist and and message at the end.

Got this one from the library to see if it would be something Violet would like - we both love escape rooms. On the plus side, I liked the creativity of the different environments and the abandoned settings (library and mall in particular) were definitely effectively creepy. The unpredictability of what would happen next was exciting.

But overall, not my favorite book - not enough like an actual escape room (more Jumanji-like action scenes than actual puzzles to solve), too much character death (including the unnecessary death of an animal in an extremely heavy-handed dose of anti-plastic-waste moralism) and I felt “the Answer” at the end was a bit cheesy.

Escape room is an adventure, mystery and a game all in one story. It’s a short story at just under 200 pages and perfect for younger readers between 9-12. A fast read. Short chapters. Main character Ami is joined by others all hoping to escape the game. But with loses of her friends along the way, time running out and stress will Ami make it to the end and escape? Is this really a game or the end of the world?

A very clever story with a huge plot twist you’de never expect for an ending. Highly recommend. I was hooked and devoured it and I’m 27. A well deserved four stars from me.

The book is okay. I thought the escape rooms were fun. The end was, for my taste, a bit too „i‘m telling you what we need“ but yeah. Probably won‘t rereading this book
