Great author and OK book. I wanted more of a lead in to her happy ending than what was given. The glamour and glitz was entertaining and page turning.
I'll admit I was reading this book as part of research into the pro tennis circuit. If it hadn't been for that, I would've DNF'ed very close to the start. There's no spark to this book, not like Devil Wears Prada (made me wonder if it actually was the same person who had written these two tales!), and the heroine was meh at the best of times, no one to write home about. The plot dragged, and then it all picked up (in the last 5-10%!) but so fast, you wonder if you'd just been left to bite the dust (or the clay of Roland Garros, maybe?)
Let me just start out and say I've never been a fan of Ms. Weisberger's writing. I find it simple fluff in which she creates one-dimensional characters with very little plot. In The Singles Game, it's no different.
Charlie finds herself side-lined by two career defining injuries. She wants to win at all cost and makes the changes in her life to allow that to happen. But soon the story just becomes flat and moves at a snails pace. The storyline about Charlie's training was the most enjoyable and probably close to what the pros endure.
If someone gives you a copy of this book, give it try. Otherwise I wouldn't waste my money on buying it. (Someone gave me the copy I read).

Maybe I should have played more than c-squad high school tennis? I kind of want to go to an exclusive yacht tennis party.
The concept was interesting but overall the book dragged. Every event that I actually wanted to read about was not narrated; instead there would be a big lead up to a competition or a romantic rendezvous, a chapter break, and then a paragraph recapping what happened. I was frustrated to say the least. The end also seemed rushed, and I wished it was developed more. All that being said, I did read this in 24 hours and I was adequately entertained, which must count for something.
Overall it was okay, but I wouldn’t recommend.

The end was predictable but I enjoyed learning all the insider workings on a top seeded tennis player.
