i enjoyed the texas setting and lore’s pov! cassie sort of seemed like a nonessential character, and the framing as a true crime piece seemed contrived (the relationship with duke seemed incredibly unnecessary) rather than helpful … cutting cassie and adding more lore (and the family(ies)) would have been more compelling because the former was just a boring plot device

Lore, may very well be the most true of all women I think. Especially in her flaws ❤️

Every character is unlikable af and I really didn’t care about the story at all. I wasn’t invested but picked it back up after I’d stopped listening for a while. Would not recommend to a friend

Book #49 read in 2024

The synopsis of this book drew me in, but it didn't fully deliver on its promise. Marketed as a thriller, this is actually more of a domestic drama with a smidgen of mystery. Both of the women main characters are flawed and unlikeable, although as more of their backgrounds and stories are revealed, we begin to see why. There is a lot of dialogue in Spanish without translation. At first, I spent time trying to understand and translate what was said but eventually gave up as it became more frequent. I just tried to use the context to figure it out. If you enjoy domestic dramas, this may be one for you.

*Note: I began to read this as an audiobook, but the missing translations made it complicated to understand. Unless you are fluent in Spanish, I would suggest reading the book or at leasthaving it handy to reference.

“The dance becomes an affair, which becomes a marriage, which becomes a murder…”

More Than You’ll Ever Know is a story about a woman caught in a double life after one husband murders the other, and Cassie, our true crime writer who must get this story out into the world.

Holy wow! This book was insanely compelling all the way through. There wasn’t a point where I wasn’t deeply invested in the lives of these terribly human characters. The families contained within these pages are flawed, but often in a relatable way. More than anything, this is a story of motherhood, family, and what it is to be a woman in search of herself (which lets be real, that’s most of being a woman in this world). You can’t help but empathize for the people hurting others and for the people hurt.

There are numerous potent lines scattered throughout that kind of made me stop and appreciate how someone else could put into words what many of us women feel. Gutierrez is going to be an author to keep your eye on from here on out. Mark my words on that.

I’m so glad that I’ve found all these terrific women writers in the past year or two.

Thanks so much to William Morrow/HarperCollins Publishing for sending me this ARC of More Than You Know. It’s absolutely one of my favorite books so far this year.

Lores part of the story was interesting, it kept me invested . I enjoyed how the author pieced together how Lore was able to live two lives. The author did a good job picking a time period where Lore's reasoning made sense.

The story around the murder wasn't as interesting. At the very beginning I had a suspicion on who the real murder would be then with the way the author set up the characters it was obvious who the murderer was going to be

Cassie & Dukes story was a bore & unnecessary. There was no point in Duke's character or their relationship. The book could have done without it and been shortened to a more manageable length. As far as Cassie's story with her mom, dad and Andrew it could have been better she just kept going over and over the same one instance and it was like "ok we get it! Is that all?". I feel like more/different instances of the abuses that occurred would have added to Cassie's story
