I love the way Allende writes and this story totally had me gripped! ...until the last few chapters when it all got a bit predictable and fizzled out somewhat. Worth it for the rest of the story in itself though. So many great characters... all wonderfully woven in together.

An entertaining read, except for the implausible and rushed ending...
"A good day plus a good day equals a happy life."
Rich cast of characters interwoven into a murder mystery, which ends up being minor player until the end. Not my favorite Allende, but still a good read.

Mmmm not the best mystery thriller que he leído.

I picked up this book expecting a light thriller, but I ended up disappointed. Isabel Allende’s narrative style has always earned my respect, but in this story, she overindulged it, often going off on tangents and straying far from the crime itself.
Even so, the crimes were almost believable—until everything started to become absurd, both in the way the case was being “solved” and in how the villain expressed their motives.
What stood out to me was the relationship between the grandfather and granddaughter—it was a very peculiar and special dynamic.

This was a weird one. Allende is so good at writing characters. And every single side character has a rich background that you could write a whole book about. There is not a single throwaway character in this book. That being said the book does rely on some character archetypes that are a little outdated at this point, particularly Indiana and the killer. Despite being annoyed by some of the cliches this book was very readable and I felt compelled to pick it up.
