This was not a heart-pounding, edge-of-your-seat thriller, but it was a pretty decent mystery with a sprinkling of romance thrown in. Both mains were realistic characters, both had easily believed strengths and flaws and the chemistry between them was hot. The bad guy was decently creepy, and the flashbacks revealed little bits of information just slowly enough that you never saw the twist coming. I LOVE when you get close to the end of a story and there's a moment that makes you go "WHOA!!" - that's what you'll get here. It word slapped me!!

The issue of PTSD was prevalent throughout, and I thought it was handled extremely well, very true to life. Loved that it wasn't just a throw-away issue, something the character overcomes with "just the love of a good woman". Instead it was shown how debilitating and destructive PTSD can be, and how it can completely take over someone's life.

4.5*!

I haven't picked up a Sandra Brown novel for a while now. The previous novels of hers that I read were her romance ones.
Not gonna lie, it took a few weeks of sitting on the shelf before I got down to reading it & boy oh boy did it take me on a ride!

This book is filled with suspense, intrigue and enough twists & turns to give the reader more than a few "what! I didn't see that coming!" moments.

Lethal is right on top of my list of books to be read next!

OH My dear Brown! You have got SOMETHING in your writing that keeps me so glued to your books. Is it the plot or style or the twists or the romance ? I'm not sure of it though.. Whatever it is, this is one of my favourite books from now on. And, i have to say , i admire all your male characters ;)

Now to the plot.. Dawson Scott, a journalist is suffering from PTSD(post traumatic stress disorder) after having spent time in Afghanistan during war.
He is in search of a story that will change his career for ever. He is pursued into attending the trial of Mr Williard Strong who is suspected to have murdered his wife for infidelity, by his godfather Mr Gary Headly. This connects with a story that began 40 years ago, as the secret lover of Ms Strong is Mr Jeremy Wesson who is the son of Mr Carl Wesson and Mrs Flora Stimel , two of the most wanted in the FBI.

I dont want to go much into the plot as this would reveal a lot of twists.
The final sweet twist took me by a shock ! Revenge is sweet !!

And Dawson, I love you :)

I'm not sure I've read Sandra Brown before reading "Deadline." If I have, it was decades ago. And I'm kicking myself for having ignored her talent for so long.

I was thoroughly impressed with her elegantly intelligent prose. Her style was clear and concise, yet rich with imagery and character depth. And the plot contained sufficient twists to keep me listening attentively (audiobook version).

Flawed protagonists are always the best, and Dawson Scott has plenty of flaws. So does his love interest, Amelia Nolan (ex-Wesson). And no suspense novel is complete without a compelling villain. Carl Wingert excels at being at once dastardly and principled. Principled for his long-standing feud and terroristic response to government oppression (in his mind); dastardly for his callous disregard for life, family, compassion, and love.

Even more pleasing than her suave prose and deep characters was her deft skill with the book's sex scenes. Reputedly one of the hardest components of adult fiction writing, Brown's love scenes were well-spaced, built steadily to the end of the book, weren't gratuitous, weren't over-the-top graphic, but conveyed true passion between Dawson and Amelia.

This is an early candidate for my best read of 2016 (for those who give a crap about such things.) :-)

Wow! There was a plot twist I didn't see coming! I had some reservations about the book and my enjoyment of it prior to me starting the book. However, I will say I enjoyed it immensely and I found that I had a hard time putting it down. I have read other Sandra Brown books in the past and have enjoyed them but this one might just have to be my favorite! I have read lots of books in this genre and very few of them have been able to surprise me in the end like this one did.
