I liked this so much more than I thought I would! The concept was original and intriguing and the book was fast-paced and hilarious. I loved how the different voices of Dash and Lily were so distinct (they were written by two different authors, after all) but the book overall was cohesive and well put together. Levithan and Cohn's different writing styles complement each other in the same way that the personalities of Dash and Lily are so different but work well together. I loved how the bookstore The Strand was heavily featured and that both of the main characters appreciate the magic of an amazing bookstore. The vast amount of word-nerdiness was also fantastic. The book takes place during the Christmas season, but I read it in March and liked it just as well. A highly enjoyable adventure! :)

great fun along with many insightful moments. I particularly liked the commentary about our expectations and how we can project them onto other people. I definitely had a few moments where I had to stop and get wistful. sigh, dreamy!
Full disclosure, I listened to the audio of this book and it was amazing. I was in the middle of watching the Netflix series (which is quite different in some of the plot points), so it was interesting to compare. I love the idea or exchanging a notebook between 2 strangers and am reminded of all the friendships/ relationships that began through anonymous emails. Leviathan’s writing is all over this. His cutting sarcasm towards some of the most popular authors was hilarious (I see you James Patterson and Nicholas Spark.) He is hilarious. Shown by lines like, “Arsenic, like family, is best in low doses.” The book revolves around 2 teenagers in the holiday season and a red moleskin notebook where they exchange dares and their innermost thoughts & feelings. I could relate to Lily’s awkwardness & positive outlook and Dash’s sarcasm & dry sense of humor.
i loved this book as much as i loved the show! such a cute holiday love story <3
It took a little bit to start to like these characters but they grew on me.
I'm trying to think of how to spell the sound of total indifference. Maybe 'enh'? At any rate, my response to this book can effectively be summed up in one grunt. Not a good sign. While Dash & Lily's Book of Dares had a good concept, (who doesn't like books, scavenger hunts, mysterious romance and nerdyness?), it was a largely character driven book, and I hated the characters. Hate is probably to strong a word, and, to be fair, they did grew on me somewhat by the end of the book, but nevertheless the characters were super annoying. Dash is so pretentious and Lily is so juvenile. I feel that if I met them in real life they would irritate the hell out of me. Maybe this is just a young adult book not meant for adults. Perhaps, actual teenagers reading about these teenagers would not find Dash's wordiness and philosophizing utterly pretentious, and Lily's oddities somewhat ridiculous. At any rate, a character driven book, where you kind of want to ditch the characters does not a wonderful story make. I though about giving up pretty much the entire way through the book. Last night I had 15 pages left and decided to go to sleep. What a bad sign. Finally, if I was reading this during Christmas my thought might have been different, but reading a Christmas book in February didn't work well for me. So, blah.
i hate to say that i was so bored sorry. giving it 3 stars is a generous act.
