Meh. There are aspects of these books I like and others not so much. The time travel aspects and the complicated gadgets that I can never really visualize fall in the not-so-much category. I also don't enjoy when an author is so clearly setting up for a sequel that they fail to give a full and interesting ending.

A great read from Kate Milford. I just wished more of it took place in Greenglass House.

I would not call it Greenglass #3. It's about Nagspeake and Greenglass House, yes, but it's nothing to do with Milo and his parents, and it's more a prequel, and even then, not a vital one. Which is not to say I don't love it, because I do, it's excellent and wonderful, it's just isn't really Greenglass House #3.

This being my fourth book in this world by Kate Milford, I've already committed myself to reading all of them. I enjoyed the tie-ins that I noticed to the other three books I've already read.

I particularly enjoy how magic and historical are woven together...even if I don't always understand it.

(Also compared to Greenglass House, Ghosts of Greenglass House, and The Raconteur's Commonplace Book - this book finally had a manageable amount of characters for me to keep track of)

A prequel to books Greenglass House and part of the Arcana and Boneshaker world. Lucy loves life on the seas, but her father has purchased a new home in Nagspeake for Lucy and her brother to live in while he goes off on nautical adventures as a privateer. Lucy finds a small boat to renovate to keep her mind off the hurt she feels, while her Chinese brother Liao, talented in created fireworks, meets a man who has things he can teach him, but has ulterior motives for approaching Liao. Characters from other books in this world, using a time-traveling/future-predicting device to find people and circumstances that will help them succeed at their nefarious plots.

I felt lost when I first began reading this book and as a result didn't feel immersed in the story until over halfway through it. Milford's writing is a beautiful as usual, though.

Middle school.
