I’ve had this book on my bookshelf for literally 12 years, but I finally read it this year and it was SO dumb.

As a huge Peter Pan fan, I can’t believe this was the selected sequel for the original story that they literally held a contest for. The characters are so underdeveloped, the story is ridiculous, and the ending was so lame. The amount of times the characters almost “died” was insane. Also tinker bell showing up just to immediately fall in love with this random fairy that eats buttons and ignore everyone else?? I also don’t get why the twins and all the lost boys are still called first twin and second twin and curly and nibs as adults?? There was no thought and care in this book at all it honestly makes me mad lol. It did not hold onto any of the charm of the original and just felt preachy. The Hook/Ravello moment was predictable from the second he was mentioned.

The interior illustrations were horrendous, and the cover is pretty but misleading. It looks more like the cover of a middle grade book that will be more trendy and modern instead of a horrible attempt at a classic continuation.

Peter and the Starcatchers is the one true prequel and continuation in my opinion, don’t waste your time with this one.

Read aloud for homeschooling. The style of this book was a beautiful modernized version of the orginial Peter Pan. The language and style was challenge for the boys but they followed along quite well with the plotline.

I love Peter Pan to death, and this sequel is pretty much brilliant - it was just Barrie-esque enough to work as a sequel, and yet somehow magically modern - but just enough to set it apart. Of course it's not as good as the first, but it doesn't need to be. This book is awesome.

Wendy and the Lost boys are having terrible dreams of Neverland, does Peter need their help?

Peter Pan is such a special book to me, I grew up captivated by the boy who never grew up. Finding out that this book existed was an amazing find, and I went into it cautiously optimistic.
Peter Pan in Scarlet was what I hoped for. It was a beautiful story that weaved magic like the original, taking common things like putting dreams away, or looking for a child, and turned them into something wonderful.
It was original, a new story with those I had loved and grown up with, not a retelling of the original. She brought back the characters in their own new adventure.
At times it was hard. It was dark, and it was upsetting. The blackness that covered Neverland threatened me almost as much as it did Peter and the Darlings. The joys filled me up almost as much as them as well.
The original cast so much sadness on growing up, and I was afraid I would feel the same. But this was different. Growing up wasn't a punishment, so much as a sacrifice for love. Because to grow up is to lose things. But to gain things as well.

"But at heart the girl Wendy was a grown-up (just as all grown-ups are, at heart, children)."

I have zero idea why this book deserves anything less than the full five stars. I love the original and there is obviously respect and research involved in this sequel. Details that tie not only the original Peter Pan story but other bits of J.M. Barrie's creations to this one. Author is wonderful with spinning words together to create surprising, quirky sentences. LOVED IT! As did my 12 and 15 year olds.

This book was approved as an official sequel to Peter Pan. I have to say that I also approve. It has a good deal more serious aspects than the original, including some dark elements, but the levity is still there. Definitely worthy of a sequel to Peter Pan.

you must listen to the audiobook. Love Tim curry as the voice. And when he is doing his Tim curry thing when he’s incredulous or savoring the line.
