This is how I feel about this book

****Update 9th Jan 2014****

While I have been anticipating Unhinged and getting to read it, part of me was worried it wouldn't live up the hype and reach my expectations. I fell in love with Splintered, the world and the characters, and each time I fall head over heels in love with a book I always worry that the second one won't meet its predecessor's standards. I really did not think I would love Unhinged as much as I did, or even love it more than Splintered, but I was completely and utterly blown away by Unhinged.

Unhinged hooked me from the minute I had the book in my hands and saw how amazingly gorgeous the cover is...go on, take another look........see what I mean ;). By the time I had reached the half way point in Unhinged I had so many emotions swirling around. I hated Morpheus for doing what he does to Alyssa, but liked how he has her back and saves her. Jeb just needed a serious kick in the ass, he has a good thing with Alyssa and is thinking too much with his business brain and not his emotional brain, not thinking of what he does for work will affect their relationship. Let's not start on Alyssa and what she is doing with both of these boys, lying to 'protect' Jeb, but being 'more than friends' friendly with Morpheus. I mean seriously, this trio are beyond messed up, but mostly in a good way, and in a way that wants you to keep reading and get tangled up in this mess with them.

There were a lot of twists and shocks in Unhinged that I didn't expect, and some of Alyssa's family history is revealed and explains a lot of why Alyssa is who she is. When I began reading I hated Alyssa's Mum for hiding a lot of this information from Alyssa to protect her, but then just as we near the end of the book we are actually shown what happened and why Alyssa's Mum made these choices.

I loved not knowing what was going to happen throughout Unhinged. The unpredictability of what would happen between Morpheus/Alyssa/Jeb had me turning page after page to get even the smallest hint about what was coming up, looking for any minute detail that would aid me in making this discovery. A. G. Howard makes you believe on thing, then pulls the rabbit out of the hat and erases what you thought you knew and shows you a whole new event.

Everyone in Unhinged has to go through so much, and the journey isn't easy at all. I loved following Alyssa through the glass, and down the rabbit hole. Being with her along her journey of discovery, seeing all the good and bad parts to Wonderland, but also finding out more about how it works.
The whole idea of the train was fantastic, and I could possibly do with one of them myself, and although I had guessed who the person was I was still surprised when it was revealed, like gasp out loud surprised. The last few chapters of Unhinged had me on the edge of my seat, I loved seeing them work as a team, but also seeing how they could be affected by everything that Wonderland is doing. How can it end like that, and the wait is going to be torture, like a year long torture specially designed to keep us hanging.

Review Taken By The Pewter Wolf

A year after [b:Splintered|12558285|Splintered (Splintered, #1)|A.G. Howard|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1340134213s/12558285.jpg|17562095] and Alyssa is torn between the two worlds she belongs to: the human world and Wonderland. She's trying to balance them and trying to keep secrets from her father and her boyfriend. But when her untrustworthy guide of Wonderland and childhood friend, Morpheus, suddenly appears in the real world, both worlds are colliding and Alyssa has to figure out what to do now...

I tried to read this over the Christmas and the New Year weeks - and failed to get halfway through. So, one day, I blitz through the book and went through a mix of "Ooooh!" and "what's gonna happen now?" and "Are you kidding me?!"

I really enjoy AG Howard's writing. It's one of the main reasons I wanted to read Unhinged. Her writing just sucked me in and I actually enjoyed taking my time to read the first part of the book. And I enjoyed the story of Alyssa trying to come to terms with the events of last year and her seeing her two worlds crashing into each other.

And AG manages to keep Unhinged as dark and punky as did Splintered. That's always a bonus. Don't you hate it when you read a sequel to a book you enjoyed reading and it just doesn't feel like the same author wrote it? Or that it doesn't feel like the right sequel? (I doubt this is making sense, but some of you might understand what I mean, I hope)

While I did enjoy reading this twisted tale, I have two tiny faults.

My first is Morpheus. In Splintered, I found Morpheus a character I most enjoyed reading as I never trusted him. And while in Unhinged, I still didn't trust Morpheus but there were little things that made me go "Are you not seeing this, Alyssa? How are you not seeing this?!". I wonder if it's because I read [b:The Moth in the Mirror|18602075|The Moth in the Mirror (Splintered, #1.5)|A.G. Howard|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1380589369s/18602075.jpg|26372701] (which is one interesting novella as it hints a scene that becomes very useful and important at the end of the book) or if I had become so aware that Morpheus is a character to watch that everything he does, I was always analyzing it for double meaning...

My second fault is... well, I have to admit this but this is a me issue. It's nothing to do with the book, but this is an issue I always have when I read books, watch films and things if this happens. But here it is. When I got to the end, I suddenly thought "This is a set-up for book 3". Some readers will be ok with that. Some won't. I found it annoying, but the more I think about it, the more I thought "Ok, maybe this was the only way to go..."

Barring that, I did like the book (maybe not as much as Splintered) and I am a little curious on how AG Howard is going to write [b:Ensnared|18392487|Ensnared (Splintered, #3)|A.G. Howard|/assets/nocover/60x80.png|26014993] after ending Unhinged the way she did...

Closer to 3.5 stars, I liked this SIGNIFICANTLY more than I liked the first one, although the end reminded me of a bad Pretty Little Liars episode, the rest of this story was good. I liked the growth that Morpheus displayed, and I can see why most fans of this book really like him.

Unhinged is the sequel to Splintered. It also starts about a year after that book finished. Which, okay, it was a bit weird to me because I really enjoyed Alyssa and Jeb in the first one but wasn't a huge fan of them this time around. He just seemed to exist just to be there or make Alyssa do something. So I just felt like he didn't really need to be in the book anymore. Or in her life.

Besides not liking their little relationship anymore, I'm not even sure how I feel about the little hints of a love triangle. I mean, yeah, I can see how she could be attracted to Morpheus.. but she just needs to calm down and focus on herself.

Take away the romance weirdness and this was a pretty interesting book that gave me more questions than answers. I look forward to diving into the next one just to see what madness she is going to fully embrace. I want it all.

Believe me if I could give it more than just five stars I would. This book was just as amazing as the first one. More drama, peril, and love. It was a masterpiece and I'm looking forward to reading the final book to the series, Ensnared.
