description

"...no story is more important than ours. The one we’re creating. Our story."

An embedded journalist joins Bacon's team in a pursuit of a terrorist cell in the South Pacific. Bacon bliver sat til at babysitte ham - to make sure Spencer doesn't step out of lines, to make sure he doesn't hear any confidential information and to keep him safe. Bacon resents him because if it. But mostly because, Spencer is openly gay and Bacon hates that he can be that, when he is too afraid to reveal to his team that he is pan. So still in the closet Bacon knows this assignment could be trouble. And it does go awry. The mission fails, and Spencer and Bacon are no longer just spectators but gets too involved. And afterwards, Spencer's permission to follow the group of SEALs is withdrawn.

This could mean that Bacon never gets to see Spencer again. A relief on the one hand, but Bacon has already become too involved and he seeks Spencer's company - in bed, but also outside of this.

They find a kind of friendship with benefits, but even though Bacon tries to resist they quickly develop into some kind of more. They both tries - for a while - to keep an emotional distance.
“Came because I didn’t have anywhere else I’d rather be.” Bacon’s voice lowered, became more mournful. “And trust me, I’m every bit as pissed about that too. Fuck you for getting under my skin. Everything on base is too damn quiet right now. And I’m too… itchy. You make me itchy, Spencer, and I hate it.”

There is a 10 year difference between the two, but it does not feel like a problem. The immediate problem is the contradiction between their profession. Bacon is a navy SEAL, whose job is secretive and hidden for the public. Spencer is an award-winning journalist who lives to shine a light on the truth, and he plans to write a book that criticizes the military. He knows Bacon will hate it and he knows it will give them problems.
But maybe that is just a deflection away from the real problem; that he is afraid of his emotions towards Bacon. He knows they have moved into the path of the relationship and he tries to paddle against the stream.

The big question is whether they can find a way to be together, that does not conflict with their respective paths of life, but mainly... Can they find a way to overcome their fears and accept their feelings toward each other?

Well, Annabeth Albert's books tend to end well, so probably ;o). But the road there is definitely interesting. But I don't know if it's me or the book, but the book didn't grasp my attention as much as the others. There is nothing wrong with the writing, and the quality of the book is good as always. But I want to be in love with the characters and I just didn't connect with any of them. Maybe that is the reason why I didn't feel their angst as much and hence wished for more personal and relationship angst. I hoped for a larger conflict and a more difficult resolution. The relationship issues seemed to easily resolved.
But mostly it's just that unmentionable feeling you get sometimes. The one you can't put your finger on. The one telling you that this book wasn't as good as the others, and it didn't leave any mark on me.
But you should read it because it's a favorite series and maybe you'll love it. It's fifty/fifty... Hence the 3.5 stars.

Bacon gets assigned babysitting duty for an embedded journalist due to a minor injury. When the mission doesn't go to plan, both men open up to each other and they must figure out a way to be together even if everything seems to push them appart. Bacon's backstory was inspiring and explained very well why he identifies as pan instead of bi. The age difference seemed significant in the beginning but I like that it wasn't the main issue between the men. Again, this story's problem seemed like it was more a question of ego than a real issue. However, I liked that the reunion wasn't perfect from the start. It made the relationship stronger in the end. I felt like some of the sex scenes were very similar, but it is to be expected in the 6th book of a m/m series.

Ich bin am Anfang gar nicht mit den beiden warm geworden, aber das Ende war dann doch nett. Dennoch für mich der bisher schwächste Teil der Serie. Vielleicht aber auch nur, weil ich alle hintereinander gelesen habe.

This book was just okay for me. I think it's my first military romance and it's made me pretty sure that setting isn't for me. I liked the MCs but the whole book was just a bit meh

I was curious about Bacon from the previous books. I liked that he fell for an older man. Some of the drama was a bit much but it wasn’t entirely unbelievable.
I did have difficulty with the all around acceptance of the relationship when there was so much secrecy about Dustin and Wes. Spencer is a reporter and he could be detrimental to the unit but no one says a word because Bacon says they weren’t involved until the op was over?!? Just a bit too easy.

I kind of feel like I cheated with this book. I listened to book 5 and discovered vocal performer Greg Boudreaux. And because of that, I decided to listen to this book instead of reading it (and that is a RARE thing for me, trust me). I honestly think that gives me a whole different perspective on the story because Mr. Boudreaux is a game changer. His performance…man, he brings these characters to life. I honestly think he made Spencer more…likeable? I don’t know that I would have liked Spencer nearly as much if I had read the book as I did listening. I hated what Spencer did…what he chose. When Del told him how much he hurt him…man he just broke my heart and you FELT that with the performance.

Spencer…confused me. He took such loving care of Del (Bacon) when he had time off and they spent time together; spoiled him; helped put him back together after missions or hard training sessions. But then to make the decision he did, with such a simple solution available really made me wonder if he just didn’t, or couldn’t, be in a relationship where someone had to come before his career. And God bless Del for making him work for his forgiveness. I hate when characters just forget all the hurt but Del sure didn’t. All in all, I liked them together when they worked out their issues. They’re sexual chemistry is off the charts. Their banter is cute. Thankfully, they figure it out.

There is quite a bit of action in this book. And Curly stands up and shuts down the BS comments we continuously hear which was awesome. I love that in this series each story is so different from the rest…each with a unique plot and characters and can be read as a standalone. We get a hint for a future story which I can’t wait for. This is absolutely another must read in a fantastic series!

This was going to be my first M/M romance and first book by this author. After reading the synopsis, when I came across it for the first time, and then when I got granted an e-arc of this book, I was so excited to start reading it.

I haven't read the prior 5 books in the series yet and in hindsight, I don't feel like I missed out on things because of that, thankfully. I DO plan on reading the prior 5 books because I really really liked 'Tight Quarters'.

the Characters
The characters were interesting, well developed and a joy to read about. I love reading about military man, in whatever 'form' they come- seal, navy, marine, veteran, etc - and I really liked 'Bacon's character a Lot, right from the start. He comes across this rough-edged Seal, but at the same time, he's so much more on the inside, in the best ways possible. Then there's the counterpart, our other main character, Spencer Bryant, a journalist who gets a chance to accompany this group of SEALs on their upcoming adventures. Journalists clash with the military environment a lot, so the group of SEALs isn't particularly happy with Spencer joining them. And unfortunately for Bacon, since he was injured recently, he gets the 'babysitter' job. Bacon thinks Spencer is only going to be a hindrance to his team, but he's being surprised a lot when he finds out Spencer is so much more than the 'typical' journalist. Both fighting their growing attraction and fondness towards another when they get to know each other better, in this homophobic military environment, was so incredibly well written I think. To me, Bacon was definitely the more interesting of the two, but I liked Spencer okay though as a counterpart to Bacon.

the Romance
The romance was steamy, sexy and just really well developed. It felt real and believable. I loved reading this M/M romance in this particular setting. I loved how the romance was developing with one of the characters being a part of a SEAL group and him struggling with this homophobic environment for a while now and struggling to 'come out'. It made me feel even more for this particular character because of the way he's struggling with this all.

the Story-line
I liked the story-line but it didn't have me emotionally hooked as in me feeling really intense emotions that would've made me rate this book with 5 stars, hence the 4-star rating. I felt connected to this story, these characters and their struggles regarding the romance development and the 'environment' around them they're fighting at the same time, but it sometimes felt a bit over-dramatic. Was some drama a bit unnecessary maybe? To me, there doesn't always have to be a huge amount of drama present in a romance book, I often find myself liking it just fine without the angst and drama, lol. But that's a personal thing I guess.

Conclusion
It was entertaining right from the start and there wasn't a dull moment for me, so that's always a good thing haha. There was action, a great, sexy and enticing romance, great character developing, an entertaining story-line and great writing. So there's really nothing left for me to say except; this a book definitely worth reading. A book I definitely recommend to any romance reader out there and especially if you're into M/M romance. This was my first encounter with a M/M romance and I can't wait to read more of it!

This was soo much better than I thought it would be. It was well written, the romance is fleshed out and sweet, and there are actual problems and conflicts. They have decent communication and the spicy scenes are great. Kind of everything I want out of a romance.

This book in the series was definitely a positive surprise. I went into this with the goal of finally finishing the series (and i know it sounds bad but it’s not!!! i promise!!!) and my expectations were somewhat low because the last books have been very repetitive.
But this one somehow really hit my feelings in the best way. I was crying a lot for both Del’s as well as Spencer. The whole section about suicide and depression also definitely contributed to me having a lot of emotions about this story.
This was a delight, and now i’m actually really excited to be reading the final book in the series
